And as much as you might think the United States is a shithole, the fact is that things are SO much better here than in most other places that you aren't going to deter people from coming by treating those that do inhumanely; that's how their lives already ARE, so they're going to take their chances.

Exactly. So, we have to make the consequences of breaking the law and coming here even worse. It’s called a deterrent.

We're better than that.

And my opinion would not change even if things were as bad here as you say they are.

I agree with you. I read psych's last post to suggest that merely following legal process and sending them packing is not sufficiently deterrent - "we have to make the consequences of breaking the law and coming here even worse [than staying where they are in the first place]", is how I read his post.

If I misunderstood, I'd be happy to be wrong.

PURGE!!!
Have we fallen into a mesmerized state that makes us accept as inevitable that which is inferior or detrimental, as though having lost the will or the vision to demand that which is good?

And the US is doing that by deporting record numbers of people under Biden.

The only way you can deal out consequences is by HIRING enough agents and judges to actual deal with all of the cases. Buit the GOP shitcanned the bill because they prefer the chaos as a means to try to make their terrible candidate be more appealing.
