Re: Nora Hayd
why does Boise state have beach volleyball though?
is beach volleyball a common college sports? i had no idea that existed as a collegiate option?

Answer to you first question - Because they can.
Answer to your second question - No, it's not common per se but there are a substantial amount of collegiate women's beach volleyball squads.
Answer to your third question - Yes, it exists. If I am not mistaken, I believe it has been an NCAA sport for about 10 or so years.
I can't help but wonder how MICH (and randy and Psych and.....) feel about this roster....

Couldn't care less about beach volleyball. If it makes them happy to play it, more power to them. Like soccer/baseball/golf, I don't have to watch. My only problem is when people start disparaging me for not being interested in something.RainbowsandUnicorns wrote: ↑Wed Oct 09, 2024 10:43 amLooking for exactly? Nothing specific. Thank you! I was curious what your thoughts were for a few reasons. You are a college professor and you are a religious man.JKLivin wrote: ↑Wed Oct 09, 2024 10:51 amCouldn't care less about beach volleyball. If it makes them happy to play it, more power to them. Which brings me to something my guess is most if not everyone on here is/was not aware of...

I realize they are two different teams but it seems like an interesting mix of individuals on the Boise State Women's Beach Volleyball team. Would I be wrong to question the sexuality of the athletes?
Does religion come in to play at all?
I don't recall if I have but if I have, I apologize for disparaging you for not being interested in particular sports.

She seems a little eccentric by my standards. I feel like it's reasonable to have a set format for team photos/athletic department head shots that don't include all of that, but it is consistent with my experience with this generation of kids that everyone has to feel special and unique and will go to great lengths to get attention - positive or negative.RainbowsandUnicorns wrote: ↑Wed Oct 09, 2024 11:13 amThank you! Case in point, I had an undergraduate student at my small, conservative Christian university, who is biologically male who made a huge production out of being gender fluid. They would show up in class some days in a dress and with styled hair and makeup and make a grand entrance, while other days, they dressed as a normal male and sat quietly in the back of the room.
My response was the same regardless of the day/theme/attire, which was to not react and to treat them the same as everyone else. The student later complained to the others that "Dr. Psych is transphobic." When asked why, they said "Because he never reacted to my gender status and never addressed it in class."
The other students told them that might be because it had nothing to do with what we were covering in class, but they chose to take offense anyway. They ended up leaving the school at the end of the semester. I genuinely felt bad for them and always tried to be friendly and strike up a conversation with them before or after class like I would any other student because I wanted them to feel welcome and be happy.
With regard to the trans sports issue - I do think it is unfair for a biological male to compete against biological women in sports. The Y chromosome imparts advantages in height, weight, muscle mass, and aggression that are unfair to biological women.
I don't discount the fact that gender identity is a real thing, and I have no problem with people asking to be treated as the gender with which they identify. I do have a problem with pretending like sex is not a real thing and that biological women can get hurt competing against biological men. I don't know what the answer is, aside from perhaps creating a transgender division separate from other women's' sports.

I have very mixed feelings on the subjects you responded about. That's just me. I am a confused person. I like to hear and read the opinions of people who are not "like" me and can offer a differing viewpoint.
Brings me to.... I tell people that it amazes me that my 91 year old mother is such and extremely understanding and accepting person. I am not like her in that regard. Everyone who knows her well knows that while she's very strongly opinionated, she tries to be supportive of those who often lack the support of others. I have many relatives and family friends who are going through some deep personal shit and my mother is always there for them with some love, support, and positivity. She's the opposite of me.
Gold bless her.

i don’t believe that story one bit
Have we fallen into a mesmerized state that makes us accept as inevitable that which is inferior or detrimental, as though having lost the will or the vision to demand that which is good?
