Dear Lance Leipold: Life Lesson #1 for KU football coaches: Strike while the iron is hot. If someone offers you a better job, take it. It'll be the last offer you get.

The team many/most of us and some/many "experts" felt had a legitimate shot at winning the conference, is currently 0-3 and tied for last place (and has the worst overall record 1-5) with basically no hope of winning it. I'm going to be generous and predict we finish 2-7 in conference.
JUNK!
One great illustration of how poorly our season has gone is that it took me until 2:00 today to even think to check on Cobee’s status.

Every single game has been winnable.
If we were getting blown out that’s likely more on player talent discrepancies. This is on coaching.

Hard to disagree. But it doesn't have to be permanent - I'm open (sympathetic, even) to the argument that we're seeing growing pains that wouldn't have applied at Whitewater or Buffalo.

The problem is that Division 1 football is chess and Grimey is playing Connect Four.

Oh I think Grimes will be a (deserving) casualty of the growing pains.

The problem is.... That while Grimes is no doubt partially to blame, L2 and Borland have done an equally (if not more) bad job of in game coaching.

I only watched bits and pieces of the ASU game but while I think Grimes has been trash ( hence the thread I started ) I don't know if this particular game you can put the blame on him.

KU scored 31 points.
You should win if you score 31 points.

I agree. I think the balance of the evidence, though, is that he's overmatched at this level.

On the other hand:
We don't have a pass rush.
We've gotten worse it seems at fundamental tackles.
Our lockdown corners have been getting beat.

Defense was gassed for the whole 4th quarter.
100 degree heat or strength and conditioning?
Defense. Rebounds.

Both. All. Yes.

In tandem with Grimes failing, sometimes I go over to look at Penn State, like looking at an ex's facebook page with their new boyfriend.

Drew Allar is completing 71% of his passes so far this season.
Daniels completed 74% in the games he played last season and 67% in the previous seasons combined.
Daniels this season is completing 54% of his passes with a cast of returning seniors to throw to.

Grimes.

I think in the ASU game the play calling was adjusted to give Daniels a better chance of success. Passes to the backs and sideline throws were helpful. The defense, on the other hand, even with forcing 2 turnovers, couldn't stop the run or the pass. Neither Grimes nor Borland have a good track record stat wise.

We don't have a Booker or Lonnie. So we would have to scheme a pass rush. No chance.
We have not gotten worse at tackling. You need to go back and look. Our secondary is 4 of our top six tacklers!?!?

So you would like these guys to be lockdown corners?

Then you freakin scheme them to be lockdown corners.

I am sure this defense works wonders in the Division 3 where it was originated. This is by far the best defense we have had since the Division 3 wizard and his coaches arrived. However the tendency to soften right before the half as well as at the end of games when we have the lead is just flat out terrible coaching. Truthfully though he has done no different since he got here so we got really no complaints. He is not changing and we losing practically everyone. So dark days.

It is leaning toward the permanent... the decision to replace your OC with the first guy that calls who just got fired is going to be hard to overcome. If you have seen any of the Division 3 Wizard's post game pressers you would sense that he is just going to keep on. Somehow it will just work out.

At this point us winning some games will just drag this out. We have the better players now. They key was winning this year. Creating the Mojo for next year. New stadium and going into the portal for a lot of key players. This ship has sailed and we not going to be getting on it.

I think we all got a little ahead of ourselves thinking we were going to be a top 15 or 20 team every single year.

I think LL is a good head coach. I think he has us in a good spot. But I think some were expecting immediate Georgia or Bama like consistency because we are used to it with the basketball team.

The NIL era makes consistency year to year almost impossible for everyone other than a select handful of schools. Just like basketball. Thankfully, for basketball, we are one of the handful of schools. In football, we aren't. And that's not going to change because of LL or a new stadium.

Kansas has played teams with more quality depth and did not have a margin for error. It is the same story we have seen. Cannot afford to put everything on a few guys. Spread it out

Our defensive line and linebackers cannot wrap people up and have bad entry angles.

We are currently 90th in scoring defense allowing 30.2 PPG.
We were 69th last season allowing 27.3 PPG.

We have yet to play a top 40 offense.
ISU is coming up. So is ksu.
