When I saw the video on X yesterday, I noted that the class notes in the corner had the word "gender" on them. So I surmised that the course topic might have actually been related to gender.
I do not support violence.
I would also surmise that he is part of a union whereby he could shoot 600 people in front of a crowd but not get immediately fired. There is a process.
Trump, while President, is reported to have asked if he could have protestors (legally protesting in Washington DC) shot in the legs. He has rejoiced from the podium when a heckler gets roughed up by security. Point being, there are leaders who advocate and rejoice when violence is used illegally.
Those college students are adults. They've been going through active shooter drills for a long time and can qualify to legally carry in the classroom on KU's campus. They do not need to be treated like 6-year-olds.
Again, the guy messed up big time. Unlike, Trump, he acknowledges it.

I would also say - as someone who is vehemently opposed to prayer and religious iconography in public schools, and who believes that public school education should be apolitical - that college is different.

One poster yesterday said, "Hopefully it ends there and he never brings politics into his lectures again."

I actually disagree.

A college shouldn't be a "safe space" from other individual perspectives, which might differ from yours. Things are bad enough as it is, we don't need college freaking graduates thinking they are entitled to be shielded from points of view they disagree with.

Going to college at all is a choice. Going to a specific college is a choice. Taking specific classes from specific teachers at specific colleges is a choice.

You have a point.
One of my best professors taught Western Civ 2.
Every other class he'd have the chairs set up in a circle, he'd stand in the middle, and basically be a moderator of a debate, bringing up the most controversial aspects of the current period of time we were focused on.

There was yelling. Some students even stormed out one class. Feelings should be so very secondary when related to college courses. You need to grow up now.

To grow up, yes.

To learn how to discern fact from opinion, too. To learn how to support and defend your position, too.

These vital goals of higher education are lost when people surround themselves only with people with whom they are aligned ideologically.

Well said, jfish. College is absolutely a time to have one's viewpoints challenged and expanded from diverse perspectives. I came from a tiny town in KS where everyone knew everybody and half of us were related (exaggeration). I went to college out of state to and made sure that there, less than a third of the students were in-state. I Wanted and was Ready for exposure. I loved it when professors got off-topic and discussed other things.

if this teacher was teaching an algebra class. and the lecture veered off into "no ID no vote." i would surmise that most of you would change your tune.

most of you are only into it if you agree.

What? I just finished saying that I loved it when professors got off-topic to discuss things.
Assuming that I still have the needed exposure to the course topic, I would be okay.

Do we know what the KU course was yet? I think I heard it was some kind of kinesiology subject or something. Does someone have that info now, or is that not part of your argument?

Yes, I would have a problem with my daughter's algebra teacher lecturing her on partisan politics.

That is because my daughter is in middle school.

I would have NO issue whatsoever with a college statistics professor using voter fraud data as a means of teaching college students what is, and is not, statistically significant. That is obviously a lesson that many people have failed to pick up.

To be fair, do we even KNOW he was a HE? Given the OBVIOUS delusions he must be suffering to say things this ca-RAZY, the obvious mental illness (one might say), we must at least entertain the possibility that we're dealing with a trans here.

I think you might be missing the point. Until WE get his name and department WE can't give his email address up to the trolls who will flood his mailbox with random threats and hatred.

Shoot first, ask questions later. If WE wait until WE have the complete picture, WE might not sustain our rage.

Lulz. Like how you all waited to get the full context of the “really good people” incident.

My daughter attends the University of Kansas right now. If a teacher makes a comment such as the one in question, I am confident that my daughter can handle it being the young adult that she is. I wouldn't feel the need to contact the instructor or the university to bitch and whine about it.

Good lord, what a damn snowflake.

I feel very confident in stating that I have had college professors discuss items that were not directly tied to the content of the class before and each time, I failed to die or be indoctrinated into some sort of new belief system.

Did they “joke” that people who disagreed with them should be killed? I’m guessing not.

Once again incorrectly stating what was said. You're nothing if not consistently ignorant.

Shot? Is there a significant difference? You’re smarter than that.
