Yes, most of us saw that Bill Self interview where he said the Mayo was one of their best players so far this offseason and would be hard to keep out of the starting lineup.randylahey wrote: ↑Tue Oct 08, 2024 7:48 pm I've heard some talk that zeke has been the best player overall so far in practice.
He's kind of the perfect 2 guard for bill self. Can handle pg duties but is a gifted shooter and scorer, and is 6'4 and experienced

Has being AP Preseason #1 ever garnered this little attention here?
Between the whole "I don't even know who these guys are" thing, and the whole "we're gonna give Harris and Adams 70 minutes come hell or high water" thing, it's a challenge to get super excited.

The first part of your theory is a big part.
There is a third part you left out that you don’t care about but others do.

Re: 2024/2025 Lineup
Kj has serious competition for his minutes. Obviously he's going to be tough to beat out and has a big head start, But there's a group of guys that are talented and versatile and can actually shootjfish26 wrote: ↑Mon Oct 14, 2024 1:30 pm Has being AP Preseason #1 ever garnered this little attention here?

You are correct that my personal enjoyment of college sports does not go down whatsoever on the basis of guys getting paid.
It definitely does go down on the basis of the roster churn. It goes down, also, on the basis of going into the season knowing we're 100% going to play with one hand behind our back.

Re: 2024/2025 Lineup
I am sorry, but playing DH and Kj doesn't = "playing with 1 hand tied behind our backs".
That's ridiculous. They'd start on nearly every single top 25 team.

Illy is correct.
And also those two are one of biggest things i'm looking forward to this year even if they aren't Steph Curry and Zion.
I'll also say that, while your third part that you omitted is likely my largest reason why I'm not excited about this season, there is a fourth part - last year we also were preseason number one and then proceeded to be one of the worst teams that Self has ever coached.

Re: 2024/2025 Lineup
Injuries got us last year. That's part of the game. I'd have to go through each season to be certain, but off the top of my head I wouldn't put last year as one of Self's bottom 3 seasons at KU. But it's close.

From preseason 1 ( overall ) to 6th in the B12 and getting absolutely obliterated in the 2nd round of the NCAA tournament with the non-zero chance that our star player was protecting his draft stock instead of playing through pain.
It's bottom 3 for me.

Re: 2024/2025 Lineup
At least in 2005 we won the Big 12.
We were 5 games back last season -- we knew in mid February we didn't have a shot.
19 was bad because it was the year we lost the B12 title streak ( and because that team wasn't very likable ) so yes, that one also comes to mind for me.

I guess this "fourth" part is what I felt when I pointed to Harris's and Adams's minutes.pdub wrote: ↑Tue Oct 15, 2024 7:25 am Illy is correct.

Re: 2024/2025 Lineup
Ok, but our aspirations are not of the 3-6 seed variety. We have seen, over and over and over, that ceilings are dramatically lower when you play guys like this so many minutes.DeletedUser wrote: ↑Mon Oct 14, 2024 5:22 pm I am sorry, but playing DH and Kj doesn't = "playing with 1 hand tied behind our backs".

Can you win that way? Obviously, yes. But it's so much harder, and we're choosing to do it that way.
Re: 2024/2025 Lineup
nobody was good. it was as much Hunter and Kevin as it was KJ and DH.jfish26 wrote: ↑Tue Oct 15, 2024 8:42 amI guess this "fourth" part is what I felt when I pointed to Harris's and Adams's minutes.pdub wrote: ↑Tue Oct 15, 2024 7:25 am Illy is correct.

DH is playing. Im not convinced were gonna see 30 + mins of KJ this year though. Lots of different lineups we can roll out.....theoreticallyjfish26 wrote: ↑Tue Oct 15, 2024 8:44 amOk, but our aspirations are not of the 3-6 seed variety. Obligatory Dajuan Harris was our starting point guard when we won in 2022 and, to counter the Remy was the reason why we won argument, played more minutes than Remy in the NCAA tournament, comment.

Re: 2024/2025 Lineup
I'd love Adams as a second-unit 5. But it feels to me like that's where Flory's minutes are coming from, and for his strength, length and athleticism, Adams is actually a really poor rebounder. So it's not a perfect fit anyway.TDub wrote: ↑Tue Oct 15, 2024 8:46 amDH is playing. Im not convinced were gonna see 30 + mins of KJ this year though. He's just what he is - a high-character project player who hasn't, to this point anyway, developed the skills that someone his size needs in order to be an elite-level starter.
