I do miss that about Texas.

and im generally too cheap and too stubborn to pay somebody for something I can do myself. Plus...when its done, there's a sense of accomplishment that is nice.

Also, my opinion, there is value in showing your kids that we/they/ the general "us" are capable and not reliant on others to get things done and that with a little work they too, can handle whatever they need to. Even if they're too young to be up there and help....they are always watching us (the general us) and learning. Id rather them learn that hard work is worth something than not.

Yeah, non-season, I usually go with baby blue crop top and a 1800s night cap.

the first side I wore my harness the whole time.

I damn near fell several times...and every damn time it was due to the stupid fucking rope getting tangled around my feet and wrapped in the air hose and being just a damn hazard.

so...now....I have the rope anchored at the ridge and laid out...and i use it to steady as I move across and always near me to grab but I don't wear the harness. not the smartest thing on a 9/12 pitch but it has felt safer...and im able to move oh so much more freely and quickly.....

I mean. yes japhy...im wearing fall protection....its just...modified and maybe not OSHA approved. the benefits of working on my own house....if it was a clients house I couldn't get away with it this way.
I always wear a harness, it's a pain, and I'm not really working. I am just observing and inspecting.

I only saw a harness tested once. It was about 2:00 AM in Seattle. We were working on top of the Experience Music Project, the ironworkers got the cranes during daylight and the sheetmetal workers got it at night. A large architectural panel swung over the installation crew and into the light. Only the work installation area was lit 8 stories up. As the panel swung around a guy grabbed it, and lost his balance. It was cold and a drizzling rain was coming down. We were all standing on a surface of polished painted aluminum panels that are dual curved and sloping towards the edges iii every direction. It was nothing but dark beyond that making it look even more foreboding. As soon was the guy dropped he flattened out and tried to engage as much surface friction as he could. He slowly slid to the edge and then dropped off out of view. His coworkers ran over and grabbed his lanyard and pulled and he was attached to the end of it. As his hard hat came back up over the edge there was a cheer and chuckle of relief. Everyone went back to business as usual.

Watching someone die is a weird and life changing event. I was happy that I didn't see that again. Being the family of the person who is dead probably makes it much worse. Seems like you take it seriously, your kids need you.

And, I've been meaning to ask you how your roof was coming. I hope you're able to get it covered before the rain today.

I'm dried in....sore and tired ha, but dry.

Fascia, tuck drip edge and start shingles this weekend. But that's the faster easier part.

I gotta tear open and reframe the windows at the dormers but that's minor in comparison.

Now just waiting on goddamn electricians to tell me when they can come cut my service loose so I can replace my pipe jack at the weather head and then reconnect service for me. When i get to it with my shingles...I'll be at a standstill for shingling until that happens

Glad to hear it's progressing!

I'm sure it's a shit-ton* of work.

Got the main part of the roof done...Boom! Just in time before 5 days of rain.

Pretty much worked after work until after dark last week and a long day yesterday until after dark again. but it's shingled and sealed, hip and ridge done, dormers and chimney flashed. glorious. Waiting on a new window at the one dormer but it's all prepped and ready to uncover and pop in when it arrives.

I still have to do the back addition before full on winter but it's much smaller. should be a simple deal and a fraction of the time. I gotta get a another 100 foot of cedar sanded l, stained and sealed for fascia anyway. When that's ready I'll go knock that out in a weekend or two.

Congratulations! You must be so relieved, and what a sense of accomplishment!
