Here's an article about the employee they beat the shit out of

https://nypost.com/2024/10/14/us-news/a ... tort-them/
Please don't ever refer to the New York Post as "mainstream media". That's a joke. Here's an article from a legitimate source of information, AKA the people who actually live there and report on events in the city:

https://www.denverpost.com/2024/08/30/a ... de-aragua/
But it's worse than that.

Randy appears to be learning: you will see that he did not explicitly say that the NY Post was his "mainstream media" source - so he gave himself some deniability. Some room to gotcha his way out of your obvious, correct point.

Another development: you will see that he used the fact of mainstream media coverage of an issue as support for his claims regarding that issue - so he uses the existence of smoke as a means of supporting his claims about what caused the fire.

This is from the same broad family of disinformation tactics as what Baier tried to get away with last night (and was swatted down by Harris), when he used Trump's response to a question (which was not aired) as a means to avoid airing both the question itself AND (much more importantly) Trump's own words that caused the question to be asked in the first place.

Randy: you are not clever. You are not slick enough to get away with these tricks. If you want a conversation, then have it.
JFish has just finished mopping the floor.

You remind me of Kevin Bacon’s character in Animal House: “Remain calm. All is well! All. Is. Well!”

Duped.
Why? Because I consistently point out when you make unfounded claims? Because I prefer to see a source on information that isn't "some source named "MAGAJohnny 12638" said the a video they shared was proof that a Venezuelan gang has taken control of an apartment complex"?

Sorry if I prefer to understand what it is I am consuming from an information perspective. I get how that would bother people pushing your message. I actively take steps not to be duped. You do not.
Your reply to Randy above says it all. You are duped because you look down your nose at other news sources and maintain that only yours are unbiased and valid, when anyone with a brain knows that they are owned, run, and staffed by people with an agenda. Just because that agenda to destroy America and hand us over to the globalists happens to align with yours doesn't make what they are saying true or good or right.
Bro, I lived in NY for 10 years.
After a news worthy event the night before, we would try and guess the crazy front page headlines the Post would put out the next day.
The Post was pure comedy.

I find the NYT too left leaning, I always have, so I agree that it's not the most neutral sort of news.
But the NYT is worlds, eons even, apart in terms of credibility than the NY Post.
Just stop.

News sources are a case by case basis. The New York Post has proven to be a consistent peddler of MAGA kook nonsense. The Denver Post has not. That said, I would give the New York Post more leeway to cover a story that happened in New York over the Denver Post and I trust the Denver Post to cover a story in Denver more than I trust any news source based in New York. This just isn't that complicated.

There are credibility red flags up and down that Post story - which is really not a lot more than credulous amplification of the claims of a party in interest.

But those credibility red flags are, apparently, easily overcome by confirmation bias.

NY Times is NOT left-leaning. They are a corporatist rag that is a place for hacks to practice bothsiderism so that they can pretend to please everyone.

They will be a legitimate news source when they stop being a refuge for the Maggie Habermans and the Maureen Dowds of the world. As I’ve said before, I wouldn’t waste my urine if they were on fire.

they used to be reliably left-leaning

i don’t think that’s the case anymore
Have we fallen into a mesmerized state that makes us accept as inevitable that which is inferior or detrimental, as though having lost the will or the vision to demand that which is good?

To me, "news" is fact.
To many others, "news" is opinion. With a bias.

NYT leans left for sure.
It has for a while now.

I like Quartz, the BBC and AP.
I think npr on the radio does a decent job in spurts but then gets interrupted with very left leaning sympathy pieces -- it used to be way way better.

The Christian Science Monitor was the very best news for neutral facts with a global reach - I miss it.*

*the memories of picking up my daily Monitor in the front hall of my apartment complex, walking onto the Bedford L stop before Williamsburg became a mockery of itself, reading it front to back - perfect compact size - on my 30 minutes underground, then to get off and see the NY Post peddlers practically forcing their sensationalist bullshit into peoples arms, is pure nostalgia.

Agreed. All "news sites" do some of both. What's different is the percentage of each, which facts they choose to cover, which facts they choose not to cover and whether or not they pose their opinions of the facts as facts or as opinions. Fox especially seems to struggle with the latter as they constantly stand info up as fact that is actually just an opinion.

There is no clean news source as it is physically impossible to provide all facts as there is not enough hours in the day to do so and at some point, you have to have some discussion about what those facts may or may not mean.

I would not agree with the characterization of the NYT as left-leaning. Not so long as the headlines - the front door to the news - are consistently and programmatically slanted away from telling the truth about what is happening.

Go to the NYTimes and scroll down just a tiny bit and you'll find a column about how Harris's interview on Fox was more of debate, another about what the Supreme Court did to pregnant women in America and an opinion article about how terrible Republicans in Bucks County PA are.

Come on now.
If that's not left leaning ( and that's every day for them ) then what is it?

Generally speaking, I agree with you, but you should also notice that since Biden stepped to the side, the New York times has not given Trump's mental and physical decline any mention.

Maybe because they are journalists above all, despite lean? There is zero question the NYT is a liberal publication. Again, I know we agree, but I’m repeating, to argue otherwise is folly.

The NYT has consistently and programmatically avoided using headlines that tell the truth about Trump and MAGA.

Some examples from https://www.nytimes.com/spotlight/donald-trump:

"Trump Faces Tough Questions From Hispanic Voters, but Largely Defends or Dodges" - 'lies' would be more accurate than 'defends'

"Trump Escalates Threats to Political Opponents He Deems the 'Enemy'" - obscures that those threats include siccing the US military on domestic political opponents

"Man is Arrested on Weapons Charges Heading to Trump Rally in Coachella, Officials Say" - given the context, pretty glaring to leave out that the suspect was a public Trump supporter

"Trump Raises Eyebrows by Proclaiming Himself the 'Father of IVF'" - downplays the cray

"How Media Outlets on the Left and Right Covered Trump's Musical Town Hall" - GROSSLY downplays the cray

"At Town Hall on Women's Issues, Trump Renews 'Enemy Within' Talk" - 'talk' GROSSLY downplays the fascism

"Trump Signals Skepticism of Google Breakup, Citing Competition With China" - obscures that, when asked, he first rambled off into the abyss about how the DoJ should serve him

"Trump Says It Would Be a 'Smart Thing' if He Had Talked to Putin" - probably relevant to note that this it would be a very serious federal crime for him to do so, particularly in the context of the documents case

and, I'm going to stop at:

"Trump Plays Music After Medical Emergencies Derail Town Hall" - come the FUCK on here, guys.

tl;dr:
David St. Hubbins : I do not, for one, think that the problem was that the band was down. I think that the problem *may* have been, that there was a Stonehenge monument on the stage that was in danger of being *crushed* by a *dwarf*. Alright? That tended to understate the hugeness of the object.

Ian Faith : I really think you're just making much too big a thing out of it.

Derek Smalls : Making a big thing out of it would have been a good idea.
