Re: 2024/2025 Lineup
You can flip that writers question and wonder just how bad KJ might look on a team without a pass first PG to create easy baskets for him and an AA center to average 20 and 10 to cover up his rebounding deficiencies.
I like KJ as a player. I love him as a person. He's earned his spot here. But his offensive limitations are far more impactful than anything DH related.
I think Self will figure it out. Unfortunately, there is no quick fix this year. I thought maybe Storr could be a small 4, but he's a lot tinier than I expected.
It'll be KJ for 32mpg and Clemence for 8mpg. HD for 30mpg and Bidunga for 10mpg for the front court this year.

It's so transparent. He's not nearly as deep or clever as he thinks he is. His antics are quite obvious.
"you know, Juan scored points, but you know, Juan's measure as, as, as, a player will be, is his defense better than our best guard's offense? And it wasn't tonight."
Who said it, illy?

That's your justification for calling him an overrated defender? I guess I'll go dig up the DOZENS of quotes of Self saying how good DH is. Then I guess you can stop your crusade to bash him?
I am really glad you're back dominating the boards.

omg, you're incredible.DeletedUser wrote: ↑Mon Oct 28, 2024 3:50 pmWas the writer suggesting using KJ as a PG? Because I don't think DH shooting 39% from 3 on 1.9 attempts per game is the reason KJ can't score outside of 7ft.
In fact, DH is a huge reason why KJ averaged 10.6 and 12.6 pts the last 2 years despite being a non threat to shoot jumpers from the free throw line or longer.
Have you watched much KU basketball during the last few years? Because a significant portion of KJs baskets are assisted on/created by DH.
No, I don't think the writer was suggesting KJ as PG.
Rather, I read it as, the writer thought an athletic but offensively limited tweener forward utility glue guy might be more effective in a lineup where he's the only offensively limited guy, AKA with a PG that DOES shoot more than 39% from 3 on 1.9 attempts.
Re: 2024/2025 Lineup
another way to flip that question is, if KJ COULD knock down a J then I wonder how many more assists Dajuan might get out of it?DeletedUser wrote: ↑Mon Oct 28, 2024 3:54 pm You can flip that writers question and wonder just how bad KJ might look on a team without a pass first PG to create easy baskets for him and an AA center to average 20 and 10 to cover up his rebounding deficiencies.

DH makes KJ better at offense, not worse. I am not sure how anyone can disagree with that. DH has a proven history of having wing players thrive with him (och cb jalen gradey furphy and KM). Thats a long list.BiggDick wrote: ↑Mon Oct 28, 2024 4:03 pm

Have you watched how teams have guarded KJ the last oh let's say 20ish games he's played? I have.
If KJ has the ball at the top of the key the defender is literally standing 6-8ft from him dropped back into the lane.
I don't know who tweeted whatever you're quoting. Whether he's an actual basketball analyst or an internet tweeter.
But sure, if he is suggesting if it'd be better for KJ if he were on a team where he never had to take a shot and where spacing wasn't important, then sure, i agree. That'd be better for KJ.
If you'd have watched the Arkansas game you would have noticed they weren't sagging off DH. In fact they were contesting almost all of our perimeter passes and handoffs. Being physical with our guards because Zeke Jamari and Storr couldn't hardly get a clean pass off all game that wasn't tipped or fumbled.
I actually think defenses have figured out that they are better off to pressure DH and be physical when he catches it, and/or fight through screens instead of going under in an effort to force him to drive if they have a shot blocker. I do not see defenses sagging off of DH the way they do KJ.

Re: 2024/2025 Lineup
dude, I'm hardly the only one who has criticized our PG. There were others even in the Arkansas exhibition thread who expressed similar criticisms as well, and others who have criticized him throughout his entire career here. I don' think we as fans should be disallowed to criticize a player, especially a point guard, and especially especially a point guard who's been here and started here as long as he has.DeletedUser wrote: ↑Mon Oct 28, 2024 3:59 pm That's your justification for calling him an overrated defender? This is Kansas. We're an elite blue blood program, not some participation trophy youth league.
You ever visit Phog net? Like have the hoops board chatter there is criticizing our PG.
We can tell you really are so genuinely pleased!
I am really glad you're back dominating the boards.
FWIW I do enjoy talking hoops, even with you. Sometimes I wish you would stick more to hoops and less to personal putdowns, but I figure you are who you are at this point. And I really am amazed by your ability to shape shift from one argument to the other within the same discussion.

That's rich coming from you.
LOL
I needed a good laugh.
Criticize all you want, but realize you may also be criticized for doing so.
This is a small board, not phog.net. Maybe that place would be better for you? Especially for your posts criticizing a player you have REPEATEDLY shown you're unable to be unbiased about.
Maybe that'd be best.
Re: 2024/2025 Lineup
yea...as any PG worth their weight in sneakers anywhere should, and can.
I don't!
I am not sure how anyone can disagree with that.
the other side of that coin, tho, is any NBA-caliber wing player is gonna make life a helluva lot easier for a PG. It's not like the reason Wiggins went number 1 was Tharpe, or why BMac went lotto was Elijah. Those dudes were just NBA talents either way.
DH has a proven history of having wing players thrive with him (och cb jalen gradey furphy and KM). Thats a long list.
yea, me too. If KJ has the ball at the top of the key the defender is literally standing 6-8ft from him dropped back into the lane.

jinx!

I think that's kind of missing the point. Rather, weather spacing itself would be better off with a forward who shoots, or with an offensively elite PG. If KJ was paired up with like Devonte or BIFM or Sherron or something, he might have a lot more looks at lobs and cuts and dumpoffs and such; other ways to score that a guard who demands more offensive attention could still feed him besides just jump shots.

ok, yea, defenses don't sag off DH like they do KJ; but they still sag, or otherwise under-guard, DH more than they do/would have to with many other PGs.

Re: 2024/2025 Lineup
I mean, if I am biased against DH, then you are at least as biased toward DH, as some fan favorite pet cause, or even if for no other reason than your patented brand of obnoxious contrarianism, or whatever else the illymeter measures.DeletedUser wrote: ↑Mon Oct 28, 2024 4:18 pmThat's rich coming from you.

that's how we get to your arguments like, "but 39% is actually so good, and what I try to emphasize, and in no way also a function of limited attempts that I try to downplay!"

Have we fallen into a mesmerized state that makes us accept as inevitable that which is inferior or detrimental, as though having lost the will or the vision to demand that which is good?

Dajuan Harris has averaged 6.2 assists per game the last 2 years.
Sherron Collins never averaged more than 5 assists per game.
Frank Mason never averaged more than 5.7 assists per game.
Devonte averaged 7.2 assists per game his senior year.
Do I think KJ would be better off offensively with Devonte Graham as his PG? Sure, of course. Devonte has had a long NBA career. He's better than DH. I don't necessarily think that it'd result in KJ scoring more because those guys all shoot/score more themselves. And in fact, the same train of thought leads me to the possible conclusion that KJ could negatively impact those players ability too. Kj has averaged double figures 2 years in a row. I'd say he's doing just fine with DH all things considered.
Also, you're listing All Americans.
It's just kind of a dumb exercise. Yes, we'd be better with an All American future NBA PG. LOL.
We'd be better if all of our players were better.
Re: 2024/2025 Lineup
I would like Dajuan to be better at basketball.
He is already a good player.

you sure you can’t stretch that into pages upon pages of bullshit?

Re: 2024/2025 Lineup
and fwiw I think the real "bullshit" is Kansas basketball "fans" complaining about other Kansas basketball fans actually discussing Kansas basketball on a Kansas basketball message board.
Let me speak from experience when I say this:
many here would do themselves, and the entire KCrim community, a good great grand wonderful favor by approaching this place as more than primarily a pols bored.

Most of us do.
Not sure if you noticed, but things were going pretty smoothly around here with you gone.
Re: 2024/2025 Lineup
no, not really...I rarely did/do even look at the pols bored, but when I do, it still seems as shittastic as ever.
and without me here, the hoops bored was/is virtually nonexistent.
