Re: The Great Outdoors
Have we fallen into a mesmerized state that makes us accept as inevitable that which is inferior or detrimental, as though having lost the will or the vision to demand that which is good?

nah
Have we fallen into a mesmerized state that makes us accept as inevitable that which is inferior or detrimental, as though having lost the will or the vision to demand that which is good?
Re: The Great Outdoors
you guys are just so tragically petty.
Re: The Great Outdoors
actually, indeed it did.
among other things, I realized the pols bored is just too stoopid any more even for me.
and considering how stoopid I am, that says an awful lot, don't it!
I also realized there's only so much I can do as far as the message boards go. If a small minority of posters so doggedly insist I annoy them so much, yet they still so stubbornly refuse the advice so many have offered to simply put me on ignore...well, that's not something I can control.
The majority of other posters are at least civil, if not even pretty cool, particularly without bothering with the pols bored any more.
I mean if you really want to not be annoyed by me any more, just ignore me already! It's that easy!
But if you still won't even consider that as an appropriate remedy for your annoyances, don't blame me.

Re: The Great Outdoors
If you want to assign fault, I bear plenty of it. There are things I've posted that I regret, and I've expressed apologies.
That's a big part of why I took an extended break, came back clean with a freshly-laundered sock, and have conceded the entire pols bored, which I think we can agree was and is the source of much of the stoopidity around here. For real, I think a lot of posters could benefit from washing their hands of that shithole.
Part of the self reflection is realizing the best thing to do is to just try to learn and grow and be better going forward. Avoid poking the bear with controversial hot takes, avoid personal attacks, avoid dragging the drama across every thread across every board across the entire site...everyone realizes this is the great outdoors thread, right?
That's to say, while I bear plenty of fault, I think there's still plenty of fault to go around.
I can't even begin to understand why you continue to go to such lengths to complain about me. And despite continuing to go to such lengths to complain about me, you also still repeatedly refuse to simply ignore me too. For real, you could nip this right in the bud...and yet!
I've realized it's foolish of me to fight fire with fire, and to try to counter personal attacks with more personal attacks. It's the proverbial wrestling a pig in mud, so I try to avoid it.
I also think I'm hardly the most egregious offender when it comes to petty putdowns and personal attacks, particularly with this latest load of laundry. Self-reflection is something that benefits everyone.
I also think there's a good amount of blame to the admin/s here for doing so little to moderate the discussions. If, when a topic devolves yet again into taking shots at one another, a mod would at least occasionally offer a "cut the crap," I think it could go a long long way.
I've spent more and more time on reddit - believe it or not, NOT just to seek out echo chambers to self-affirm political views. I've honestly avoided that shit, and have largely unplugged from politics as a whole. It's quite refreshing, particularly during an election season. Rather, on reddit I've sought out more enriching subs - music, DIY, The Great Outdoors, stuff like that.
Virtually all the subs have some sorta rules and admins along the lines of, "no personal attacks or shitposting." And virtually all the subs have more civil, more engaging, more fulfilling discussions - despite being comparatively more anonymous with less opportunity for actual connections than here.
Now, did anyone even bother to check out that python eating a deer? Or are some posters still not ready to consider that maybe there really is more to the great outdoors than their own personal grievances?
