The rub is not in the ends, but the means. It's a lot of code words for things like forcing people to stop owning cars, creating 15-minute cities, forbidding meat in favor of cricket meal, and using social credit scores as a means of restricting access to finances. Terrifying to anyone who values freedom and autonomy.twocoach wrote: ↑Fri Nov 01, 2024 8:56 amGoal 1. End poverty in all its forms everywhere

Have we fallen into a mesmerized state that makes us accept as inevitable that which is inferior or detrimental, as though having lost the will or the vision to demand that which is good?
Re: Kamala! Fuck Yeah!
Yes, I am sure that the boogeyman police can dream up all sorts of non-existent what-if scenarios like you described. But worrying that they might happen and stating that they will happen are two different things. I worry about hypotheticals a lot but I don't run around screaming that they are happening without actual evidence that they are happening.JKLivin wrote: ↑Fri Nov 01, 2024 10:30 amThe rub is not in the ends, but the means. What precisely are the leftiest things, of any consequence, that Harris-Walz actually propose to do?
Expand Medicare to cover home health care?
Raise taxes on...checks notes...people who make more than $400k?
Give first time homebuyers downpayment assistance, and startup founders soft tax breaks?
Keep in mind, when randy goes off on his tangents about Harris couping Biden or what the fuck ever, that the reason Harris did so poorly in primaries is that she was far TOO centrist.

Settle down sparky. I am talking about things like this:
https://www.politico.com/news/2019/12/0 ... 020-074982Still, the caution and fence-straddling that Harris displayed earlier in her career, as the lead local and then state prosecutor, perhaps provided clues to her problems as a presidential candidate. In California, Harris stayed out of several fights over criminal justice issues. She avoided taking positions she feared would upset law enforcement or make her look soft on crime — but which have become standard for Democrats in the current environment.
https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/2024-e ... rcna162737Making the leap from state to national politics proved daunting for her. Rivals like Sanders and Sen. Elizabeth Warren had spent much of their adult lives steeped in policy.
Harris hadn’t mastered policy questions that dominated the Democratic debates. She had originally backed Sanders’ “Medicare for all” plan, but later released her own version that carved out a continued role for private insurers.
She quickly faced incoming fire from the left and center of the ideological spectrum.
Sanders’ aides denounced her proposal as a “terrible policy.” Biden’s campaign joined the attack, warning that she would undercut Obama’s signature Affordable Care Act.
https://www.nytimes.com/2024/08/02/us/k ... imary.htmlBack in 2019, in an open Democratic primary field where progressive candidates and activist groups exerted substantial power, Ms. Harris shied away from her record as a prosecutor and the attorney general of California. For months, Ms. Harris failed to aggressively push back on criticism of her record and the social media slogan #KamalaIsACop, and she did not release a policy position on the issue until long after her top Democratic rivals did.
The effect of this inaction was twofold. It frustrated Ms. Harris’s advisers, who wondered why the proud career prosecutor was suddenly lacking confidence. And it confused the people who might have supported her.
https://www.nytimes.com/2023/10/10/maga ... arris.htmlThe unofficial end to Kamala Harris’s presidential campaign came four months before she formally dropped out. In late July 2019, at a Democratic presidential debate in Detroit, the California senator faced an unexpected attack from Representative Tulsi Gabbard of Hawaii, who has since left Congress — and the party.
“The bottom line is, Senator Harris, when you were in a position to make a difference and an impact in these people’s lives, you did not,” Gabbard said to Harris, arguing that the former prosecutor, who had criticized Biden for creating policies that contributed to mass incarceration, was also part of the problem. ‘‘She put over 1,500 people in jail for marijuana violations and then laughed about it when she was asked if she ever smoked marijuana.’’
The left-wing critique that “Kamala is a cop” had been raging on social media for months, complete with a meme that depicted Harris handcuffing a child, a viral interview where she laughed about smoking marijuana and a photo in which Harris donned a police jacket during her time as California’s attorney general. But Harris was rarely forced to answer it directly, and not in such a public setting, from a candidate she considered beneath her. “I am proud of making a decision to not just give fancy speeches or be in a legislative body and give speeches on the floor but actually doing the work,” Harris said onstage, broadly defending her record, citing the re-entry program she started as attorney general. Gabbard came back at her: “People who suffered under your reign as prosecutor — you owe them an apology.”
https://www.cnn.com/2019/12/03/politics ... index.htmlHarris’ campaign also got off to a shaky start when, at a CNN town hall in January, the senator said that her “Medicare for All” health care plan would get rid of private insurance, only to walk away from that position hours later.
The misstep – which Harris’ campaign aides chalked up to the senator being open to alternate routes to a single payer system – dogged the candidate for months and raised questions about her consistency and commitment to certain policies.

Russia and Ukraine have been trying to come to peace terms for a good while now. But nato refuses to leave, and corrupt shareholders want to drag it on to continue profiting. The lives lost in Ukraine are unnecessary, and the people are the victims of a conflict that shouldn't happen.
Do you even know why putin invaded?

Again, it comes down to the difference between people who engage in magical thinking - e.g. "We'll wave a magic wand and end poverty in all its forms," - and those who understand that, in order for certain ends to be achieved, there are means that logically have to be employed, e.g. to end poverty, wealth and property must be taken from those who have it and redistributed to those who do not (who does that sound like, I wonder?!?). You can go down every item on that list and either agree that the puppies and bunnies/magical solution is correct or realize that it will mean taking away rights and privileges that those of us in the First World enjoy and even take for granted in order to marginally raise the standard of living of those in the Third World. Ultimately, it will not raise up everyone so much as lower everyone to the same miserable level. Mark me down as a hard "no" for that plan.twocoach wrote: ↑Fri Nov 01, 2024 10:34 amYes, I am sure that the boogeyman police can dream up all sorts of non-existent what-if scenarios like you described. No, it doesn't at all. There is a third option which is that normal things that can be done to reach those goals. Good grief. You seriously can't think that the only way to progress towards these goals is to lock up everyone in detention camps, take their cars and feed them crickets, right?JKLivin wrote: ↑Fri Nov 01, 2024 11:24 amAgain, it comes down to the difference between people who engage in magical thinking - e.g.
