Frank never made a final 4.BiggDick wrote: ↑Fri Nov 01, 2024 3:15 pm Yea it’s a shame those doods don’t have natties.
But, in featured roles on their respective teams all those doods came very close to it. Some within even just a couple shots. Devon in particular, despite being in such a good situation, didn’t even get the chance, thru no fault of his own*
Dajuan in similarly featured roles has repeatedly failed to get part the first weekend.
But prob shouldn’t have said any of that.
What I DID wanna say tho, is my last post is less a gripe about Dajuan and more a gripe about injuries.
*if Devon DID get that chance would we be counting it as another ring for Dajuan right now too?
Dotson never got out of the first weekend.
No, we wouldn't count it as DH being a contributor because he was redshirt. Redshirts don't get to play. We never give Conner Teahan a bunch of credit for contributing to the 2008 natty do we? No, we don't. Because he was a redshirt who didn't play.
Re: Recruiting
And, speaking of those doods’s knees.
Still incredible that Tyshawn had surgery on a weekday in conference play and still started the game that weekend

Exactly. I think he'll be very good by his senior year. Especially with this year to learn the game and work on his shooting. The injury may turn out to be a blessing in disguise for him.Overlander wrote: ↑Fri Nov 01, 2024 3:15 pm Elmarko, for me was a lot like Tyshawn Taylor.
Equal parts "how did he do that?" and "why did he do that?"
Or it could be a career killer. Tough break for the kid. Injuries suck.

Just because I was curious....
Sherron Collins only played 66 more minutes in the NBA than Russell Robinson did.
Sherron might be the biggest heartbreak/disappointment for me in the entire Self era.

Frank was within a couple shots of a final four…even on a depleted roster, and starting a true freshman playing out of position.DeletedUser wrote: ↑Fri Nov 01, 2024 3:20 pmFrank never made a final 4.BiggDick wrote: ↑Fri Nov 01, 2024 3:15 pm Yea it’s a shame those doods don’t have natties.

Dotson never got out of the first weekend cuz, again, like I said, on the best team he was on that featured him the most, didn’t even get the chance thru no fault of his own.
Dajuan’s had two chances in a big minutes featured role. Admittedly, both years were down key pieces, but where a player Frank steps up in a similar situation and gets his team to within a couple shots of a final four anyway, a player like Dajuan gets blown the fuck out in the first weekend.
And actually, I give Teahan credit for that 08 ring. He was, in fact, NOT a redshirt that year. He even shot 60% from deep, as a true freshman!
But, no worries bro, I’ve mixed up details like redshirt years before too, it’s not worth making a big deal about.
Tho, if you DO not wanna give credit to a red shirt, now, Face Ass on the other hand…

but what about all the stats he got that year!DeletedUser wrote: ↑Fri Nov 01, 2024 3:20 pmFrank never made a final 4.BiggDick wrote: ↑Fri Nov 01, 2024 3:15 pm Yea it’s a shame those doods don’t have natties.

Elmarko would be another bad shooter on the floor with KJ...
Re: Recruiting
But at least Elmarko has/had the talent potential to get in the paint at will

LOL
At will huh?
Elmarko averaged 4.3pts. The only thing he did "at will" was turn it over at an alarming rate.
He shot below 41% FG. Less than 49% from 2. Abysmal from 3.
He made 40 entire 2pt FGs in 34 entire games. He did not get into the paint at will. You're making things up again.

A 5'8 guy, that through 2 games has looked better than Elmarko did last year.randylahey wrote: ↑Fri Nov 01, 2024 5:13 pmDid he? Instead that role may be taken over by a 5'8 guy

Key word “potential”, you guys.
I really do thick Elmarko has/had the talent to project as a slasher

Have we fallen into a mesmerized state that makes us accept as inevitable that which is inferior or detrimental, as though having lost the will or the vision to demand that which is good?

I really like elmarkos potential. This injury could end up being a blessing in disguise. He gets a redshirt season to learn and continue working on fundamentals. He's still relatively new to basketball. We get 3 more years of him after this

Yes. 3.2 turnovers per 40. 4.5 fouls per 40.KUTradition wrote: ↑Fri Nov 01, 2024 5:51 pmi seem to recall him being quite the handsy foul machine as wellDeletedUser wrote: ↑Fri Nov 01, 2024 5:14 pmLOL

All that said, I am still pretty optimistic about Elmarko.
But it wasn't going to magically occur in 1 off season of 5 months.
And that "potential" Ousdahl is referring to about Elmarko is not solely exclusive to him, it didn't "have" to be him. Even if DH is near his ceiling, we brought in Coit Moore Griffen Mayo Storr and Passmore. Who all have the "potential" to be whatever Elmarko could have been. Several of them have already proven to be better than Elmarko. Griffen averaged double digits and started on a final four team last year.

Re: Recruiting
It didn’t have to be Elmarko, but it prob did/does have to be some “small guard”/on-ball lead guard PG initiate the offense type, particularly in half court and late clock. If one of the bigger wing types can do that, great, but that just doesn’t seem to happen often
Seems like it was supposed to be Elmarko until the injury. Both other small guards were brought on after the injury. Shak was literally the next day. I don’t think that’s a coincidence.
I do think it’s very possible the plan was to bring one more guard either way tho, also considering Jon Voight jumped ship. The question then becomes just what sort of quality guard we coulda landed given Juan and Marko both expected to play a ton of minutes
