looking it up real quick...since 04 when the Cousy award began being...well, awarded, only one player has averaged single-digit ppg:

UNC's Kendall Marshall in 2012 at 8.1 ppg. He also averaged 9.8 assists too tho.

The next is UNC's Raymond Felton at 12.9ppg.

Every other PG has averaged at least 14ppg.

If Dajuan can get to any of those averages, allsome.

That's cool that he and HD and AJ are on the POY watchlist too.

But, all being on the same team, they may cannibalize each other's chances.

Is the eye test a better metric? What better metric is there to judge how good someone is at shooting 3s other than the 3ptFG%?

LOL

I mean…yea?

His low slow release prob isn’t the best mechanics.

Related to that, and back to more quantitative metrics - without looking it up right now, imma guess dajuan has notably fewer attempts than most others billed as “elite 3pt shooters.”

And more metrics but also maybe back to more eye test type stuff too - if Dajuan is an elite shooter then how do you reconcile Dajuan playing big minutes on last year’s team that’s otherwise been criticized as having sucked at shooting?

How many times are you going to repeat the same fucking things?

My god. Find a hobby you're better at.

Metrics suck. There's a reason the athletes play basketball and not the math nerds

Have we fallen into a mesmerized state that makes us accept as inevitable that which is inferior or detrimental, as though having lost the will or the vision to demand that which is good?

Well this metric just called dajuan an elite shooter. He's a reluctant shooter other teams would deliberate leave open for most of his career. Yes he has improved his shot a lot in his time at KU, but still he is a low volume three point shooter with a slow low release and little ability to create seperatation to create his own shot

Metrics are fun to look at, but there is a lot more to the game than numbers. There's a lot of variables that go into how the stats accumulate. And those there is a lot those numbers don't tell

Sometimes you've just gotta watch the actual game and see for yourself what happened

Lets be honest....that social media visual was probably made by a guy who simply grabbed rosters and filtered 3pt makes and 3pt%.

At nearly 40% for his career, it's easy to understand why he was included.

that's a good point too, about creating their own shot.

All our good guards have been able to, 3-point or otherwise.

It's an exceptional example, but the first that came to mind was Devonte crossing over to swish from deep in that ridiculous overtime comeback against WVU.

I tried to find a gif of that particular play, but couldn't, so instead please enjoy this gif of Devonte dressed like a slice of bacon.

This makes me happy. Love jamari. Don't think he will ever be an NBA guy, but he can help this program a lot over the next 4 years, even this year working hard in practice.

In the transfer portal era, it's good to have the long term program guys for some stability

I really like coits game. Dude is a baller. But I don't think I pick playing dajuan alongside a 5'8 dude. Athletically we look like a small conference backcourt all the sudden

Long season. He's the most ready right now. I think we can play them together some. Mathematically there are only so many minutes to go around regardless of the combo on the court. Zeke Storr and Griffen will all probably play about equal minutes. With Coit right behind them or close to them.

I don't think Passmore or Clemence will be in the "real" rotation we see during high profile/close games.

It'll be interesting to see if we try to keep HD and DH around 28mpg.

I think how defenses deal with KJ and how we are capable of handling it will be a big factor in KJs minutes. He may lead us in minutes if we can navigate the issues his non shooting causes, because he does the little things so well.
