Welcome Darryn Peterson
I have no idea who Bucket Jones is.
This is big time for us.
Elmarko will have serious competition for that "lead guard" spot. LOL
If we can keep some guys from this year we could be preseason #1 again.
Maybe something like
Peterson
Elmarko
Storr
Griffen
Bidunga
Probably need a legit 4 because Griffen is more of a big 2, but we've got a lot of recruiting left to do.

I'd say 3 studs. Wiggins Jackson and Oubre.pdub wrote: ↑Sat Nov 02, 2024 4:59 amSo 2 studs, a meh, a eh, a meh but Bill shouldve played him more, and a whiney quitter.DeletedUser wrote: ↑Fri Nov 01, 2024 9:12 pmHuge.randylahey wrote: ↑Fri Nov 01, 2024 8:58 pm This guy is the best guard prospect self has ever had. Have we fallen into a mesmerized state that makes us accept as inevitable that which is inferior or detrimental, as though having lost the will or the vision to demand that which is good?
Re: Welcome Darryn Peterson
9 PPG on 44% FG and a no show v WSU isn’t a stud for me.
Re: Welcome Darryn Peterson
fwiw Bucket Jones is Peterson's alter ego/baller nickname. It was given to him during childhood by his father, cuz of the way he would be Jonesing for buckets when he played.
I thought it'd be fun to use that nickname for his welcome thread, but if we're gonna use his real name instead, okay cool.
If he went number 1, that would be so rad.
One initial thought was, rich man's Selden, as they're the same height and wingspan, and maybe even kinda look similar in the face.

Losing lots of guards at the end of the season makes this a crucial get. Glad to have him as a Jayhawk.

Re: Welcome Darryn Peterson
"Our relationship. I feel like we had a spark ," Peterson said. "I went there for the first time in the eighth grade when I was on a prep school visit. I felt that spark right away and connected with him right then. I'm a big energy guy and the energy was right."
"His urgency stood out," Peterson continued. "Him, being a legend, it would be easy to get complacent and relax. He told me that he still wants more and he's still hungry. He wants more and that's kind of my motive, too. I have this name and all of this stuff, but I want more."

Re: Welcome Darryn Peterson
just outta curiosity, is there any reason you only went back to 2011?DeletedUser wrote: ↑Fri Nov 01, 2024 9:12 pmHuge.randylahey wrote: ↑Fri Nov 01, 2024 8:58 pm This guy is the best guard prospect self has ever had. This is a really big deal. Biggest commitment since Andrew wiggins

cuz coincidentally, we landed the number one recruit in the class of 2010.
I dunno if that makes him the "best guard prospect" randy mentions, but if nothing else cuz Peterson is bigger and longer, kinda makes him feel better already.
Now, let's just hope Peterson doesn't go snacking ribs at Bruce Pearl's BBQ parties...

Oubre was a stud at the end of the year. But struggled early. So his numbers weren't great for the season.
The key with these stud freshman is to have good upperclasman to pair them with. That way you can unleash their next level athleticism, but not have to depend on them all year

Re: Welcome Darryn Peterson
I considered Josh Selby when I made that comment. I think darryn peterson is a better prospect, but that remains to be seen. In hindsight Selby didn't live up to his hype. Selby was #1 in one ranking, but lower than that in all the others. And it wasn't the strongest draft class at the topBiggDick wrote: ↑Sat Nov 02, 2024 12:13 pmjust outta curiosity, is there any reason you only went back to 2011?DeletedUser wrote: ↑Fri Nov 01, 2024 9:12 pmHuge.randylahey wrote: ↑Fri Nov 01, 2024 8:58 pm This guy is the best guard prospect self has ever had. Re: Welcome Darryn Peterson
yea.
Both Selby and Bucket seem to be scoring guards. The difference is, Selby was a scoring guard in a PG's body. DP is built more like a legit NBA 2-guard prospect.
I think Selby had a rough go of it, tho. He started the year in the F the NCAA thread, then got hurt. He was actually pretty good for the like 6 games in between that.
Dude shoulda stayed another year and developed. Hard to make it in the league as an undersized scorer.

Rich mans Selby might be the better comparison. Seldon was basically a small forward in a 2 guards body
Peterson appears to have all the physical tools to be a legit combo guard at the nba level

Re: Welcome Darryn Peterson
I don't beleive self has ever had a guard prospect that checks all the boxes the way peterson does. On paper.
Excited to see him on the court

Re: Welcome Darryn Peterson
I saw one take that DP's jumper is still kind of a work in progress.
That's prob a blessing in disguise tho, cuz if he was a guard who CAN shoot, there's no way Self would have recruited him in the first place.

Re: Welcome Darryn Peterson
Regarding him being the best ever.
Hindsight 20/20.
We have said this about other recruits before.
