Re: 2024
Interesting article on why and when confederate statues were erected.
https://www.npr.org/2017/08/20/54426688 ... ist-future
The most recent comprehensive study of Confederate statues and monuments across the country was published by the Southern Poverty Law Center last year. A look at this chart shows huge spikes in construction twice during the 20th century: in the early 1900s, and then again in the 1950s and 60s. Both were times of extreme civil rights tension.
"These statues were meant to create legitimate garb for white supremacy," Grossman said. "Why would you put a statue of Robert E. Lee or Stonewall Jackson in 1948 in Baltimore?"

1. The only proper answer for Trump would be something to the tune of "I do not support White Nationalism, nor violence toward any race, religion or class of people". He didn't do that, because he thrives on the energy he gets from all of the crotch grabbing and chest thumping.randylahey wrote: ↑Mon Nov 04, 2024 11:48 am1. That has been done enough.randylahey wrote: ↑Mon Nov 04, 2024 10:48 am Throughout history, the tearing down of monuments and statues is pretty common. It's a tactic used to demoralize people. It's an attack on culture, used to erase a people's history. Typically it is not something done with good intent. There were people there to protest this concept. Trying to lump everyone into this group of "white supremacy/hate" just isn't accurate
Also trump word for word denounced white supremacy within seconds of the same phrase the left turned into a propaganda smear campaign against him. So that breaks that narrative
1) Trump said exactly that and 2) it WAS a white supremacist rally. Obama did not lie.
2. Saying it was a white supremacist rally is misinformation. There was a lot more to that situation than that
2. What other name would you give a rally arranged, coordinated and attended by known white nationalists? Are you going to ignore the tiki torch masses marching to the tune of "the jews will not replace us!" Or violently shoving attendees and degrading those that aren't wearing their cute little Nazi cosplay outfits.
You are either stupid, or ok with this. Either way, you and your type are dangerous.

This is one of the problems with the absolutist, ni shagu nazad approach that Trump has emboldened MAGA to take to everything. The inability to never, ever, under any circumstance make an unqualified, I fucked up apology means that there is no such thing as a "denouncement" that carries any weight.Overlander wrote: ↑Mon Nov 04, 2024 12:35 pm1. 1) Yes, he said EXACTLY that. And yes, he also said additional things that for purposes of a "did Obama lie" debate are irrelevant.
2) The Unite the Right rally was a protest that only happened BECAUSE it was planned, organized and coordinated by multiple white supremacist groups. It was THEIR EVENT. They didn't just roll up to someone else's civil war statue protest. How fucking hard is this to understand?
This is a fucking white supremacist rally, no matter how hard you try to diffuse it and play it down.

"we are not non-violent, we will kill people if we have to"
Just good ol fashioned banter. Nothing to see here.

Re: 2024
do you find that the folks listen to you more better when you purposefully misspell certain people's names. or when you treat them like civilized human beings.
Re: 2024
What I have found is that you do not listen to anyone regardless how they speak to you. Civil people treat each other with respect and listen to what each other have to say in a conversation. I assume that everyone here is civil and deserves to be treated with respect until they prove otherwise. By continually ignoring the efforts at civil discourse here, you are showing yourself to be disrespectful and no longer deserve to be treated with respect. Fuck you.

We had 2 trolls. One is currently in time out.
Randy feels the need to pick up the slack and take the trolling up a notch.
Mich is the resident lazy provocateur. Just doing his part.
Mich is apparently in charge of snide comments for the next week or so.

Trump word for word condemned white supremacy in that speech. But it isn't the snippet they chose to parrot and repeat for years. Why is that?

Re: 2024
Why is it the portion of what trump said that the media (and a few of you) have used for years was the part about fine people? which he then clarified specifically, he wasn't talking about neo nazis or white nationalists
When they just as easily, and more truthfully, repeated the part where he condemned white nationalism and neo nazis?
One tactic was very divisive. The other would have been unifying, and more honest

Re: 2024
Because Trump has zero clue who else was there and neither do you. You're assuming it ONLY because he said so. It was a white nationalist rally with hundreds in attendance, not thousands. I don't assume that a bunch of random suburban moms also chose to attend it. Do you see any "very fine people" standing around the outskirts of the processions of white supremist Nazis marching down the street that look like "I was just here because that statue reminds me of eating lunch in the park with my Grandpa when I was a kid"? Me neither.randylahey wrote: ↑Mon Nov 04, 2024 2:35 pm Why is it the portion of what trump said that the media (and a few of you) have used for years was the part about fine people? which he then clarified specifically, he wasn't talking about neo nazis or white nationalists

But you know? Do you understand how ignorant that is to say? That you know more about every person present in some random location at a certain point in time than the sitting president, who has every surveillance and intel resource imaginable at his finger tipstwocoach wrote: ↑Mon Nov 04, 2024 2:39 pmBecause Trump has zero clue who else was there and neither do you. Have we fallen into a mesmerized state that makes us accept as inevitable that which is inferior or detrimental, as though having lost the will or the vision to demand that which is good?
