As someone who has helped a teenager get a license and bank account recently, yep. Whatever he scribbled down won’t be what he signs checks and documents with when he’s a real person.

I'm a grown ass adult and my signature changes every few years. We barely sign things any more other than a POS device that we sign with our finger to make some credit card purchases.

In my former career, there were instances where, if asked to sign something that I really didn't want to sign, I signed EDWARD V HALEN (very clearly). Never once got called out on it.

the problem with information is, how self-fulfilling it still is no matter what.

no matter how reliably-sourced you think you are or you try to be, you're always gonna be prone to bias. You can find info out there to support damn near anything you want. Hell, twocoach even found a link that says Democrats provide universal healthcare!

The bias can be internal - like us individually leaning on sources and views that confirm our own opinions and values, and avoiding or dismissing sources and views that don't.

The bias can also be more external, so to speak. After all, so much of the media is owned by the exact same corporations and evil rich people that all have a very vested interest in advancing their own agendas. The government and the country and the western world all wants to maintain their own interests and views too.

I realize that sounds kinda deep state-y tho too but I think there's truth to it.

I mean, you ever pick some world event, and compare and contrast how western media vs. elsewhere covers it? Sheesh!

I think the counter to misinformation is not simply assuming there's a counter to misinformation out there. Some mis-misinformation silver bullet of a source. Sure, there's good information and bad information, and some information is better than others, but the more important thing is to just kinda take everything with a certain grain of salt.

That's hard tho, cuz it also means an openness to potentially changing one's own beliefs, and turns out that's an incredibly hairy thing to do.
