Among the many lunacies, the thing about tariffs that gets me the most is that the PRO argument assumes completely irrational behavior on the part of American producers.
Let's say Sparko and Fish both sell, say, $2,000 couches, and that Sparko makes his in China and Fish makes his in the USA.
If Trump imposes a 20% tariff on Chinese couches, then Sparko is going to tell JD Vance that the price for the (eminently fuckable) couches is $2,400 each.
Is Fish really going to keep charging Vance $2,000 for (eminently fuckable) couches, since Fish's costs didn't go up?
Of course not! Fish can raise his (eminently fuckable) couch price to $2,300 or $2,350, and still win Vance's (eminently fuckable) fucking-couch business on price!
That's terrific of course, for Fish, but not for Vance! To say nothing of the poor, fucked couches.
