Re: America Failed
This very much is on topic. You have chosen to end the post-WW2 global order, from which you have personally derived enormous, enormous benefit.
Re: America Failed
i know it has been awhile. but i do not recall the world pulling off the teet in 2016.
maybe they did. but i doubt it.

Re: America Failed
The circumstances are completely different. Swallowing the crazy pills this time because they didn't kill us last time is world-historical recklessness.
And to be very clear, I very much hope that we suffer so little consequences of that recklessness that you can throw these posts in my face in four years.
I am just not optimistic of that.

I won't agree with that. I'm not old enough to fall back into resentment and, ultimately, resignation. And I'm not ok with my kids seeing that in me.Overlander wrote: ↑Fri Nov 08, 2024 11:09 amOptimism is dead.jfish26 wrote: ↑Fri Nov 08, 2024 10:52 am The circumstances are completely different. It's very interesting to see the differences in reactions.

Half the country thinks the country is saved.

Obviously I did not want Trump to win.DeletedUser wrote: ↑Fri Nov 08, 2024 11:35 am It's very interesting to see the differences in reactions.

I think it's going to be a disaster, and the question is whether we're talking Covid-level (highly localized pain), or 2008-09 level (widespread pain), or Great Depression level (widespread destruction).
But, my present point of view is that if Trump were to win, this way is significantly preferable to a murkier way. A few thousand votes in a couple counties, outright and acute cheating, emergency litigation and December-January maneuvering.
It is better that we bought the ticket and will need to ride the ride, wherever it takes us.
Re: America Failed
put me in the column that has no reaction.
like all presidents, he will do almost nothing that he said he would. it won't be as bad as some say. it won't be as good as some say. it will be meh.
2 years from now we will be cranking up the 2028 election cycle.
4 years from now, we will be electing whatever we elect.
rinse and repeat. rinse and repeat.

Have we fallen into a mesmerized state that makes us accept as inevitable that which is inferior or detrimental, as though having lost the will or the vision to demand that which is good?

Well, you're kind of off to a bad start. You are spending an awful lot of time on here participating in a meaningless (or at least non productive?) circle jerk.
