The BIGGEST problem to me is - what pdub alluded to. Trump is a piece of shit, and the "average" American who voted for Trump didn't care enough that he's a piece of shit to not vote for him. Why?

Because "go team".
You're either red, blue, or fucked.
I suppose so. I lean "fucked".
I mentioned too frequently on here than I didn't want to vote for Harris or Trump.
I ended up voting for Harris. Well, not really for Harris. For Harris' potential cabinet. That's what I used to convince myself to vote for her. Probably was only fooling myself in doing that. Who was she going to surround herself with? I just felt safer with her potential choices than I will inevitably feel with Trump's choices.
I can't help but wonder how many people didn't vote for Trump but voted for his potential cabinet. 1%? Can't be enough to have made the difference in the results. Right? I don't know if I hope I am right or wrong, but I do know I can't for the life of me figure out why people like Donald Trump as a person.

New President - New Gutter. I am going to pledge my allegiance to Donald J. Trump and for the next 4 years I am going to be an even bigger asshole than I already am.

when you had people going to the ballot box on election day not know that Biden had dropped out, it seem pretty indicative of an information transmission/consumption problem
but, i do agree that there are 10s of millions that would’ve voted D or R regardless
too many have no sense of civic duty (being an informed voter)

npr had a segment on a couple days ago, interviewing immigrants (literally talked to illegal immigrants outside of a home depot)
even with the threat of deportation, some were still supporting trump. they didn’t seem to even care that his economy was shit the first time around (prior to covid, it was still worse that Carter’s). as Fish alluded to in the other thread, theirs was support for change from the incumbency (despite all evidence indicating the relative success of the incumbency). these are low information voters
on another front, Arab-Americans voting against Harris, despite trump continuously using the label “Palestinian” in a derogatory way, is yet another “cuts off nose to spite face” instance. so many have bought trump’s schtick hook, line, and sinker…he doesn’t have their (or their family’s, people’s, etc.) best interests in mind, and they will likely be worse off in the long-run, on both financial and personal safety/security fronts

i said early on that Harris may end up with relative landslide of a win
team trump, rather than stopping the bleeding, seems to be only opening it wider. it’s hard to see how they aren’t shedding votes weekly, if not daily

is psych’s head going to explode when Harris thumps trump in a relative landslide?

I called it like I saw it. Anyone who wasn't living in the real world and interacting with average people could see it coming.
Right. I saw it too.
Yet, we had many intelligent people (I sincerely mean it) on here who all but insisted/assured/guaranteed us that Harris would win.
The million dollar question is..... Why? Why did you, and I, and randy, and a couple others on here, see it, but smart people (not just on here but all across the country and world) didn't?
I think some of the intelligent people you reference were too busy looking down their noses to ask if there was any merit to the things that the "rubes" were saying. It is part of the dehumanizing effect of social media on our culture, in my opinion.
They were obviously not alone, and I say that taking no pleasure in the pain that I see being expressed from that side of the aisle. People I love and care about, including my younger son and older daughter - are really struggling, and, having felt that way after past elections, I feel for them.

Because they are either wealthy or morans.
And that's why he won. Calling people morans and disparaging them as less than human just makes them want to push back.
I know a lot of people who voted for Trump, and not one of them like him or think he is a good person. All of them, however, knew several people who were loud and proud in calling them rubes, morans, and bigots and saw multitudes more in the media doing the same. They all - without exception - took great satisfaction in casting their vote for Trump as a middle finger right back at the people disparaging them.
Your side already had the economy going against you. You added a weak candidate and the condescending tone, and all of that together sealed your fate.

"Democrats take the blame, though, because on top of these discriminations against men, Democrats, via DEI, HR, “Believe Women,” “#MeToo,” “toxic masculinity,” “the patriarchy,” “male privilege,” “male power” and taking pride in “the future is female,” create safe spaces and trigger warnings for women but not for men. Democrats appear to be the ones blaming them for all the bad and showing no concern about their failure to launch, their suicides, their street homelessness, their deaths from opioid overdose, their dad deprivation …
When many of these men hear that men are turning to Trump because they have problems voting for a woman for president, they once again feel blamed by a party they feel has its blinders on. When Michelle Obama explicitly blames male rage for hurting women, they’d like her to understand that anger is vulnerability’s mask and to approach their vulnerability with compassion rather than blame.
Losing will be a gift to the Democrats only if it generates more introspection than if they had won, if they take time to consider what they are missing about the men they are missing."

No doubt that is a tiresome message from some sections of the left.
That doesn’t excuse a person for voting for Trump.
That's one way to look at it. It's also the way that will almost guarantee a replay of all of this in four years. Being hateful, combative, and dismissive got you here, and it will take you back here yet again. Good luck with that.

If you were to look at the last fifteen years of posting on dotcom, dotnet and kcrim, I’d wager that if anyone was going to be labeled as hateful, combative and dismissive, it would be far more likely to be you than most others here.

It is and has always been a two-way street.

And you may look at this as a contradiction but I always relate this place to a bar I run…and people like you aren’t welcome.
