maybe I'm wrong, but it kinda seems antisemitic to threaten violence upon an Israeli journalist, particularly when all they did was ask about a hostage deal. Kinda makes me nervous to approach other elected leaders about the issue.

Either way, it kinda seems fucked up for any elected lawmaker, particularly one as high-ranking as POTUS, to threaten any journalist with violence. Like just for a second imagine if Trump said something like that.

Also, Uncle Joe does not look well there.

As for Sinwar, I know he was a big scary terrorist and everything, don't get me wrong. But, he was born in 1962 in a refugee camp that still exists to this day. Just think about that for a sec.
1. What if I told you Kraus was a Muslim Israeli? She's not but my point is my guess is Biden didn't take her religion in to account.

2. I don't think he "threatened her with violence". I do think he couldn't come up with a thoughtful response so maybe something like a Corn Pop flash back was the first thing that came to his mind?

3. If Trump said something like that then I would wonder what happened to his ego. I would expect him to say the Hostages will be returned as soon as I get out of here and make a couple of phone calls.

4. Uncle Joe has his ups and downs but overall Uncle Joe hasn't looked well for many months and Uncle Joe probably shouldn't be our President right now.

5. You took time to do some research on Sinwar. Kudos. That's more than most people care to do.
Yes, he was born in a refugee camp. Soooooooo.... I have thought about it for a sec. Sorry, I'm unsure what I am I supposed to conclude. That justifies his actions?

New President - New Gutter. I am going to pledge my allegiance to Donald J. Trump and for the next 4 years I am going to be an even bigger asshole than I already am.

sure seems like that was the insinuation, right?

1. yea, I don't think Biden took her religion into account either

2. that Corn Pop (and Trixie) mockup that like lobster or whoever shared was, among other things, actually kinda funny

3. saying "as soon as I get out of here and make a couple phone calls" would have still been a more sincere thing to say than some shit about getting hit in the head. I think both comments were said from a place of ego.

4. yea...sigh. I'd say "poor guy," but I also think it's hard to feel sorry for him when it's more than anything his own ego motivating him to stay in office instead of just fucking retiring and spending the rest of his time eating ice cream with his grandkids like a normal geezer.

5. I think the fact he was born in a refugee camp that still exists today, adds a lot of relevant context to help understand this situation better. That sounds like a pretty rough life to have lived, doesn't it? Now, consider the conditions that crated a refugee camp to be born into in the first place.

Again, I remain ideologically nonviolent. I don't personally meant to suggest being born in a refugee camp "justifies his actions." However, international law may say otherwise. However however, international law tends to be one of those do-as-we-say-not-as-we-do sorts of things. When we're able to accuse an imperial foe (like Russia...or heck, like Hamas?) of breaking it, it's a tragedy. But when we our our imperial allies are accused of breaking it, meh.

I wasn't joking at all, much less in poor taste.

that sort of comment comes across as just a knee-jerk deflection by your partisan-rotted brains.

if Trump said something like that to the press, I think you guys might react much differently.

Or, if there IS a poor taste joke here, it's “do you think that you can get hit in the head by the camera behind you?”

Cuz a comment like that is, at best a poor taste joke.
Good lord.

We were talking about Biden, not you. Biden was not threatening violence against a journalist. And he certainly wasn't being antisemitic.

oh.

thanks for clarifying, illy.

The thing is, when so many otherwise try to discount me as just one big walking "poor taste joke" after another, I mistakenly assumed that comment was directed at me once again.

Seemed pretty obvious to me.

The comment about you was that you were trolling by pretending Biden was being antisemitic and threatening violence against a journalist.

ha.

Perhaps so.

Kamala was never a super strong candidate, for either office.

I think he (or better yet, someone, anyone, among Dem ranks with a fucking backbone, assuming anyone among Dem ranks even has a fucking backbone) should have said, Uncle Joe is just not fit for reelection, we need to have a proper primary.

But even then, a proper primary may have just a likely yielded another uninspiring centrist just as meh as Kamala. Who knows.

I'm still curious to see if and when the conspiracy thread fires up, and I can finally eat this popcorn.

It's not a satisfying answer, but I'm having a hard time - considering the specific results up and down the ballot, and considering what elections have looked like globally in 2024 - concluding that there was anything political that could have been done differently, that would likely have resulted in a different outcome.

Lord knows we all come at this with our biases, but at the end of the day the most clear-cut "blame" lies in the failure of our institutions to support the rule of law under pressure from a demagogue and his cult.

The House should have passed the bipartisan immigration bill rather than leaving the issue out there as a bad-faith cudgel. It didn't.

The Senate should have convicted him in Impeachment II. It didn't.

Federal courts should have convicted him on the dozens of felonies in which grand juries handed down indictments. They didn't.

The Supreme Court should have applied a Constitutional provision pretty much tailor-made for this situation. It didn't.

We are not in this dismal place specifically because Joe overstayed his usefulness…or because Harris was a horrible candidate.

We are here because so many chose to sit this one out (for various reasons), and too many people in this country fall into believing every fucking this the orange idiot told them.

Trump had total control of several of the most important sources of information. It doesn’t matter what the content is of that pipeline of information, that type of power can turn green to purple if needed.
