Re: 2024/2025 Lineup
Passmore has bright potential but probably on the outside looking in, all the other perimeter players are a lot older and more experienced
Clemence looks broken. Playing with zero confidence. Missing open 3s he's supposed to be good at shooting, and missing layups around the rim

Re: 2024/2025 Lineup
thats 7 with 2, Rakease may ir may not also be in that fight.randylahey wrote: ↑Sat Nov 16, 2024 8:35 pm Core 9 actually seems pretty clear.
Dajuan
Zeke
Griffen
KJ
Hunter
Storr
Bidunga
Coit and moore fight it out for the reserve guard minutes. Maybe there is room for them both to play some, different skillsets
Hes gonna be good, and pkay a lot in a year or two

DH, Coit

Rakease as a floater, spot minutes at multiple spots.
Clemence: Break glass in case of emergency.

Re: 2024/2025 Lineup
We've got a lot of games where we'll go 10 deep, but we know those close games are going to be the main 7 or 8 guys.
Re: 2024/2025 Lineup
I think Elmarko is gonna be a contributor.....but I'm not sure where he would've broken into the rotation this year

Re: 2024/2025 Lineup
Agreed.
We wouldn't have both Coit and Moore if he didn't get hurt though, so I do think he'd have played. I do not think he's as good as Zeke Storr or Griffen.
Hopefully he and Jamari can be some stability type pieces over the next few years with the amount of new guys it appears we will have.

Re: 2024/2025 Lineup
Well before elmarkos injury, we did not have commitments from moore or coit. Not sure if either one comes, definitely not both. Moore commitment within hours of elmarkos injury being announced so it obviously was a factor
I'd guess a healthy elmarko would have competed for the starting 2 spot, as a returning guy he might have even been the starter to begin.
Zeke is a lot better shooter and player IMO so elmarko would have been beaten out, but been the featured reserve guard playing good minutes off the bench as back up point and 2 guard
Re: 2024/2025 Lineup
fair points
although I don't think there's anyway he wouldve started more than the first 2 games

Hopefully, Elmarko makes good use of his time off working on ball handling and shooting. He has the physical tools to be as good as we wants to be.
Re: 2024/2025 Lineup
I think a healthy Elkmaro would have had a big role for us this year, and prob even started, at least to begin the season
Self was speaking very highly of him in the pre-injury offseason.

Re: 2024/2025 Lineup
He was.
But he also speaks highly of everyone in the offseason to the media.
He also said Clemence had been one of the best players....and, well, he's not.
Totally think Elmarko plays (if healthy this season). No Coit. Probably no Shak. So he'd be in that 15mpg role. No chance he stays ahead of Zeke long term.
And, Zeke has a skillset that matches what we need. Elmarko (and Jamari) are going to take over our DH and KJ type roles (mutli year rotation players). Lower ceiling, multi year vets, who create continuity with new players being plugged in each year. Passmore may also be that, but too early to judge him. He may have a higher ceiling than Elmarko and Jamari.
Re: 2024/2025 Lineup
that's a good point.
Elmarko had already shown more than Clemence ever did...not that he showed a ton (yet)
Elmarko had already started for half a season...tho, again, that's not worth much.
I guess if Elmarko does have benefit of the doubt compared to Clemence, maybe it's that Clemence seems to have the build and talent of some sorta tweener big, whereas Elmarko has the build and talent to be prototypical Bill Self Combo Guard™
And maybe just fanboy optimism for that freshman-to-sophomore leap.
And to be hailed as the most athletic dood on a team, over other doods like KJ and Flory, is a thing too.

Re: 2024/2025 Lineup
Yes he's athletic.
Blessing in disguise for us. Elmarko fits a lot better for us next year. And we don't waste an entire year of eligibility for 15mpg. I think Coit and Shak more than replace what we lost (for this season). And we got a lot better for next season and beyond.

Re: 2024/2025 Lineup
Considering Elmarko already played almost 19 minutes a game as a true freshman, I think we could have expected more this season, rather than less.
As has been mentioned, both Coit and Shak were both signed after Elmarko's injury, Shak literally the next day. While I think it's likely we would have added one more guard yet to round out this season's roster, it's prob much less likely we would have added two, or added these two in particular. Who knows.
Elmarko's natural talent could have made him that dynamic complimentary guard this year. It would have required him to develop, but that can be expected as freshman become sophomores.
For the sake of fanboy optimism tho, I'll dig the "blessing in disguise" adage. Here's to him making a full recovery and staying healthy, and balling out next season and beyond.

Re: 2024/2025 Lineup
Elmarko played out of absolute necessity last year. We didn't have Zeke, Storr, Griffen, Coit, Moore....Kevin was hurt, Timberlake was garbage and played a lot.
This isn't difficult.
None of us know how much eh improved over the summer. He may have made the rotation, or he may not have. But his minutes played last year is an unreliable predictor on how his minutes would've played out this year. The entire personnel at his position was revamped in the offseason.

Re: 2024/2025 Lineup
It's so hard to compare year to year now because of roster turnover.
It's basically a numbers thing. If Zeke and DH both average 30mpg (which is conservative, because their mpg will go up as we get into the meat of the season) that leaves about 20mpg for Elmarko. Thats not a "small" role.
I expect Coit to end up around 15mpg and Shak around 5mpg. Maybe Shak beats Coit out. I don't know yet. But there is a limited amount of minutes up for grabs because we've got DH Zeke Griffen Storr and KJ solidified as our main guys (along with HD and Bidunga as our frontcourt).

Re: 2024/2025 Lineup
If Shak only gets 5mpg then I might kinda wish we woulda shirted him, if we even could
I imagine it’ll be whether we need more of a game management sorta PG, which to say, a 1:1 sub for Dajuan; or a quick scoring punch at either the 1 or 2, in Coit

Re: 2024/2025 Lineup
Maybe it's 10 and 10. Or 12 and 8. Or 12 and 12 if they both play well.....but I don't see how it's mathematically possible to play them both 20mpg. Where would the minutes come from?
(Obviously, I'm not talking about blowouts)
Re: 2024/2025 Lineup
KU has had 4 different players lead them in points through 5 games, Mayo (x2), Dickinson, Storr and Harris. Wouldn't be surprised to see Griffen and KJ both lead the team in a game at some point this season.
We aren't shooting much better than we did last year (34% from 3 vs. 33% last year on about the same number of attempts per game) but I expect that will start to improve as guys start to gel together with more reps. Should be interesting to see how that goes over time.
