They wouldn't. Every vote would count equally.

Then, by force of sheer numbers, those in less-populated areas, with different priorities and values, would be made irrelevant by those with higher population density. The exact reason for the Electoral College in the first place.

I’m reminded of the former Yugoslavia. Speaking with a big brush: people living together for a few hundred years, then politicians built up what were relatively smallish divisions, then they had a war, the world was introduced to the term “ethnic cleansing,” and now the people there speak of how it was basically a really stupid war, and they mostly live peacefully again.

Biggest difference there is they were working division to gain power. The current administration has friendlies in both Chambers, and a court, and most governorships, and state legislatures. They are working division because their policy sucks.
