we’ll miss it when it’s gone, and our children will curse us for allowing it to be so

Have we fallen into a mesmerized state that makes us accept as inevitable that which is inferior or detrimental, as though having lost the will or the vision to demand that which is good?

NatGeo has a new article on this that’s pay-walled…fortunately, the only good snake is a dead snake

I didn't know that's what a lynx sounds like.
Since 2012 SVC has partnered with the USFS and many others to monitor Canada lynx and wolverine populations throughout the Southwestern Crown of the Continent. From January through March, SVC staff and technicians snowmobile to remote locations, setting up bait stations, collecting genetic samples, and following wildlife tracks in the snow - all to better understand the population dynamics and landscape use of these threatened species.
Our work has provided valuable insight into population size and distribution of wolverines and lynx, as well as how Canada lynx utilize post-burn landscapes. Just this past winter, SVC staff spent 960 hours out in the field, covering 736 miles of terrain, while backtracking 30 lynx and maintaining 11 bait stations.
Monitoring plays a critical role in potential management decisions, and SVC’s rare carnivore monitoring program takes a heavy toll on our vehicle fleet, our snowmobiles, equipment, and staff, making your gift an essential part of the program's future. We’re excited to share that every gift of $500 or more will be matched throughout this campaign, doubling your donation in size and impact! #wildforwildlife

Re: The Great Outdoors
that’s maybe a half mile from us, if that
there was apparently another sighting yesterday just 4 streets south of us
weirdest part is that we’ve had a super mild winter thus far. so it’s not like it’d be pressed for resources up in the canyons

Looks like a bobcat, or maybe a coyote.
