Makes sense. It'll be damn near impossible to get another high school kid to commit when we've got the possibility of Storr Griffen Elmarko McDowell and Passmore all returning. I suppose we could lose Griffen, maybe Storr too, but seems doubtful to me due to the strong draft.randylahey wrote: ↑Sat Nov 16, 2024 8:54 pm Self also said he doesn't think they'll sign another high school kid. So it'll be those 3 plus the returning guys. Then trying to complete the roster with some transfer portal additions

I hope Bill Self is doing all the things that his heart doctors tell him to do and that he coaches for several more years. My youngest will be a college freshman in 7 years and I would REALLY like it if Self could stick it out to get her through her undergrad at KU. Come on, Bill. Keep it rolling, baby!

Re: Recruiting
He's 61. Coaching until he is 70 isn't super unrealistic, but I'd be surprised if he goes much past that.

I'll graciously take and be thankful.for every season we get. This doesn't just happen every year like this. Truly amazing GOAT stuff from Self year after year.
Self and Reid are putting KU/KC fans in a level of expectation that is going to be a thing to deal with for their successors.

Re: Recruiting
The KU women's team signed a 5 star recruit from KC.

K went to 75.
And the carrot on the stick for Self is, coaching that long very well may allow him to surpass K, in terms of things like total wins.
Self just hit 800 (just last night?!)
K's at 1202.
If Self can average say 30 wins a season, he would surpass K within 14 years, or right about the time K retired.
Or if he says "I just don't like this NIL era of pulling in top high school AND transfer recruiting classes, I'd rather just go drink Diet Coke at the country club with Roi," he could do that too.

Re: Recruiting
He's got 11 30+ win seasons in 31 seasons.
So a difficult task, but not impossible.

Re: Recruiting
I could easily see a world where more games are scheduled throughout the year to where a team is playing maybe 35 regular season games plus the conference tourney plus the NCAA tourney.
Gotta make that money.
It's the most important thing.

Re: Recruiting
beat me to it
Have we fallen into a mesmerized state that makes us accept as inevitable that which is inferior or detrimental, as though having lost the will or the vision to demand that which is good?
Re: Recruiting
they play what, 72 games in the nba. these semiprocollegiatelike leagues should be playing 50+.
Re: Recruiting
I didn't realize Self had "only" 11 30+ win seasons. seems like more. But that's a good point.
Also a good point we're likely to get more and more games per season. It's always trended that way.
if we use Self's time at Kansas (which is prob a better indicator of what he can do going forward rather than also factoring relative outlier W/L stats at places like Oral) and also don't count wins so far this season (since it's barely started and incomplete)
587 wins/21 seasons = 27.9 wins a season average.
so with like 408 wins to surpass K, at that rate, it would actually be a little over 14 seasons. So yea a difficult task but not impossible.

Re: Recruiting
The KU women's team just landed ANOTHER 5 star recruit.
Nice. Enough of KU having shit women's teams. ISU and KSU can field Top 10 women's teams. There is no reason KU shouldn't be doing the same.
