That's why the folks went for Trump's bullshit.

It's at least some alternative to the status quo...while Kamala tried to campaign on precisely the status quo.
If shit is “dark” economically for a lot of folks, it has a lot more to do with them than it does Biden or Harris.

Hilarious that those same folks think that the failed businessman with Dictator dreams is on his way with relief.

yea, it's hilarious.

But it's also hilarious that that failed businessman with Dictator dreams was nonetheless able to defeat the dem.

I think a lot of it comes down to the messaging. One side went for the grievance narratives, while the other went for something more like this "if shit is dark for you then that's your own fault" sorta thing.

Maybe.
But, if you couldn’t draw a discernible line between those 2 candidates and pick the one that wants to hold our Democracy together, I have nothing for you

Electing Trump and a quasi-Russian cabinet because Harris wasn’t far enough to the left.

What a world.

Yeah, would be better if we had a monarchy.

I mean, I think we're effectively something far closer to being a dictatorship of capital than we are to being a healthily-functioning democracy.

Lulz. But.... Of course there is nothing really funny about it.

I'm really going to also miss "Let's win this!", "When we fight, we win!", and "JOY!".
Can't believe those slogans weren't the difference makers. Shocking!

Even setting aside the unseriousness of your whole thing here, what exactly do you think would have happened in this particular election had there been one viable third party candidate?

It sure seems like instead of 49.8%/48.5%/[other], it would have gone something like 49%/32%/18%/[other].

Congratulations, we'd be hearing about how Trump actually won by historic margins (instead of that simply being a lie that gets screamed at us nonstop, soon via quasi-official state media).

I have said frequently that I'd be in favor of ranked choice voting.

But Christ almighty, if we're this bad at picking from two, what makes you think we'd be better at picking from three?

Don't think it was fish's intent, but that "something like 49%/32%/18%/[other]" could be read as an indication of just how unpopular the dem was this election.

If in this hypo we assume Kamala looses like 16-18 percent or something to this viable third party candidate, boy does that make Kamala's campaign sound weak.

Also dunno if Trump would have held at 49% no matter what.

Thanks for your political insight. Is it based on anything more than gut feeling? Or have you been spending significant time analyzing the election results on a county by county basis, state to state?

I'd love to see your data that you've compiled.

I'm making a prediction.
Donald finagles Congress and the Supreme Court and by the end of his Presidency there will be an amendment in which a President can serve more than 2 terms and/or a foreign born US citizen can run for and become President.
Maybe groom that Musk guy in the interim?

Split up the non-Trump vote however you'd like; Biden outpaced Bernie by about 2:1 in the 2020 Democratic primary, so that seems like a decent enough place to start I guess.

I think you'd be awfully hard-pressed to find a meaningful number of Trump 2024 voters who would have voted for a candidate to Harris's left. 0.8% might have been an overshoot there, if anything.

The point is that, even in this viable third party candidate fantasyland you have constructed in your head and taken out for so many walks here - it's almost certainly a bigger win for Trump than the one he got.

A Constitutional amendment isn't happening.

The much more realistic scenario is the Rs running a straw-man President candidate, with Trump running as VP, with the plan being for the straw man to resign immediately upon inauguration.

Maybe they'd say out loud that that's the plan.

Or maybe it would be one of those "I don't know what Project 2025 is" things, where it's an obvious lie that some sentient beings actually believe.

Trump is old. He'll be happy to be done after this 4 years. I don't think any of those crazy predictions are going to come to fruition.
