Re: Uncle Joe
the whole thing about term limits will make for quite the reality TV 4 years from now, if Trump even makes it that long.
and yea, you gotta figure anyone with the Trump name will try to make a career out of this subsequent. But I dunno if that have quite the same "appeal" of Don Senior.

Re: Uncle Joe
I don't think it's worth much to point to the 2020 primary as any indication of what might have happened in 2024. Or, who knows, maybe if 2024 DID have a primary, dems could have selected a stronger and more popular candidate yet!jfish26 wrote: ↑Sun Nov 24, 2024 7:33 pm
Split up the non-Trump vote however you'd like; Biden outpaced Bernie by about 2:1 in the 2020 Democratic primary, so that seems like a decent enough place to start I guess.
I think you'd be awfully hard-pressed to find a meaningful number of Trump 2024 voters who would have voted for a candidate to Harris's left. 0.8% might have been an overshoot there, if anything.
(And besides...haven't we seen dem primaries held as something less than in objective good faith, anyway? oh, never mind)
Also, I didn't mean to suggest any meaningful number of Trump 2024 voters would have voted for a candidate to Harris's left.
Do you mean to suggest that maybe there were Trump 2024 voters who were otherwise on the fence, or could have potentially been wooed by some other candidate who was not Kamala nor even to the left of Kamala, but still some other option yet? That seems at odds with your suggestion previously that a viable third party candidate's votes would have come overwhelmingly at the expense of Kamala.
I've wondered how many "moderates" Trump may have picked up; non-diehard magaheads who simply held their noses within the two-party system.
Either way, I think the bigger takeaway from this election is, the overall lower voter turnout, particularly for Kamala.

I'd love to see your data that you've compiled.

yea.
Hindsight is 20/20.
Cuz for the longest time the narrative was, but who could possibly beat Trump besides Uncle Joe?

Re: Uncle Joe
I might have strongly considered voting for a Republican other than Trump.
Heck, I actually voted in the 2016 Republican Primary so I could vote against Trump.
Who do I think could/would have beaten Trump in 2024? No one. Not a single fucking Democrat.
Not even a 60 year old relatively healthy Joe Biden. Forgetting a not well 81 year old Joe Biden.

Re: Uncle Joe
that's quite an indictment of Democrats.
Re: Uncle Joe
It is, but not (in my opinion) for the reasons you might think.
The Dems lost this election long before 2024.

Re: Uncle Joe
Donald Trump is the President elect.
I'm honestly not sure what that says about Pubs. Other than, they're pathetic but savvy?
I am wondering, who is the Pub in waiting for 2028? Jimmy Dave? Has to be right now. Right?
If the Dems don't figure something out he very well may be the next President elect. Heck, Donnie Jr., Ivanka, or Lara Trump, could be the next President elect if the Dems don't figure something out. Excuse me while I vomit.

yea. Pubs are pathetic but at least "savvy."
and that was still enough to win, cuz apparently, dems are just pathetic.
Both parties have a relative blank slate to work with for 2028 right now, if they want it.

Re: Uncle Joe
The pubs absolutely do not have a blank slate to work with, good grief.
Re: Uncle Joe
How so?
All I meant was, they could lean on the term limits thing as a way of showing him the door…again, if they want to. (And have the backbone to, which, so far, they don’t)

That’s fucking LOL for real funny.

Re: Uncle Joe
no.
I mean, come 2028 pubs can run whatever candidate they want BESIDES Trump
tho right now the sentiment seems to be, they're gonna try to weasel some shit to keep Trump around anyway

Re: Uncle Joe
This is all assuming that Trump wont be able to legislate a 3rd term.
Or, that there will even be a real election in 2028.

LOL at thinking the GOP has a blank slate heading into 2028. JD Vance will be their nominee.
