I agree they deserve another game. Beat Baylor and we have one.

The real question should be do NFL prospects play in a worthless bowl?

I was talking to a buddy the other day and I’m curious if NIL agreements have any condition of playing in all games you’d be available for. We all know man6 have recently chosen to forego Bowl games. Why should the likes of Dotson, Bryant, Neal play in the Z-Man with extra Cheese bowl presented by Quilted Northern?

A bigger than KU question is why should top NFL draft prospects play for playoff teams. Ultimately, the money here is small potatoes for these guys. And lol @ ‘they are competitors at heart’ (they are,but potential generational wealth seems much more alluring than any college glory)

Your question reminds me of being at the Rose Bowl in 2016 and vividly remembering watching Christian McCaffrey be the first Stanford player (other than a kicker or punter) to come out on the field to warm up. Dude went balls out warming up for about an hour. Super focused.
Very first play of the game - 75 yard TD reception.
Followed by a 50+ yard punt return for a TD at the beginning of the 2nd Quarter.
I think he had close to 200 yards rushing and had over 100 yards receiving.
I'll never forget his saying after the game, "I play for my teammates".

Next season.... He basically said, fuck my teammates and skipped the Sun Bowl to "prepare for the Draft".

So, ignore the turn around late season?

Grimes was merely a spectator for that?
The turnaround has been great. Still should be 10-1 at worst right now. And lost to KSUck again, which is inexcusable. The last three games don’t make up for that. This should have been a special, program-defining year.
Andy Reid is still figuring out how to run an offense led by Patrick Mahomes throwing to some pretty damn amazing players. It didn't help that Jalon Daniels made an insanely high percentage of terrible decisions late in both halves of numerous games in a row. I personally do not think he was fully physically and mechanically ready from his back issues. Maybe they kept the reps down in preseason and that is why he was behind. The flip side is that maybe that is the only reason we have him this late in the season doing as well as he is. Who knows, backs are a finicky thing.

I wouldn't have a problem with KU keeping their ear open on the unofficial level to see if a promising upgrade becomes available but I don't think you just fire Grimes cold right when the season ends. I think even Grimes would understand when he hears KU is listening to job pitches to replace him. Sometimes coaches need a little motivation heading into the offseason to ensure they are ready once the new season begins.
That’s a very measured response and realistic solution.

Whomever was in charge of the offensive play calling to start the season I put mostly to blame for at least early looses ( UNLV and Illinois ). There were head scratching calls in important situations.

WVU I put that more on our defense. We were up 28-17 with 5 minutes left.
Same deal with ASU. If you put up 31, you should win.

Let's hang 40 on Baylor then go to some random bowl and beat up the 10th place SEC team.

Paragraph one: absolutely. Other games you referenced as well, for if we kept possession, defense isn’t scorched. See: Colorado game.

For the ‘yeah but things are different now’ apologist types, Div 1 is pseudo-pro ball at least, and there really isn’t any allowance for a learning curve, especially when pieces are in a place rarely seen. But whatever, LL is hyper-loyal, and we are probably ‘stuck’ with Grimes for at least another year.

Paragraph 2: I’m truly hoping for Nebraska.

I would not be opposed to them moving on from him.
I wouldn't be nearly up in arms as I was earlier in the season if they didn't.

Agreed. My preference is still sentence one, but realize that's unlikely at this point.

I wonder if LL wants to fire him? That matters. It's going to be hard enough to keep him, no need to make it even easier for him to leave.

Seems as if the two ESPN writers think KU wins this weekend:

Radiance Technologies Independence Bowl
Independence Stadium (Shreveport, Louisiana)
Sunday Dec 29 9:15 p.m., ESPN
Bonagura: Kansas vs. Louisiana
Schlabach: West Virginia vs. Oklahoma

SERVPRO First Responder Bowl
Gerald J. Ford Stadium (Dallas)
Friday Jan 3 4 p.m., ESPN
Bonagura: Texas Tech vs. Vanderbilt
Schlabach: Kansas vs. Memphis

Mi believe he’s referring to LL.

Which I think is wrong. LL isn’t a young man, I think this is his last stop.

I agree that this is Leipold's last stop. Hopefully, it's not Grimey's.

Looking at the B12 standings, my god, had our defense stopped ASU from marching down the field with 2 minutes left AND had Jalon Daniels not fumbled with 3:50 left in the ksu game, we could be in the drivers seat for a B12 conference game.

6-2 with tiebreakers.

There is a world where Cam Skattebo gets stripped by Jalen Todd ( Todd went for the strip ) with 2 minutes left and KU recovers, ending the game.

And then, week following, Grimes/Lance actually calling a screen play on the last drive ( instead of dropping back play after play ) and Neal takes it into ksu territory.

Neither of these scenarios are at all far-fetched.

Also, of note, we are 21st in Sagarin.
That's ahead of Colorado, BYU, Michigan and MIZZOU.

Just think what we could be ranked if those L's were W's. I'd guess top 8.

Sorry. My bad, B2L.

I just meant "we've come a long way", and "it'd be nice to see the team go to a bowl". They're a good team, and they've earned it.
Please, I implore you to be reasonable...

"why should top NFL draft prospects play for playoff teams"? They probably shouldn't. But none of KU's draft eligible players are "top NFL draft prospects". None of them are first round picks. They can't afford to skip anything. They should all be doing every rep they can to ensure they get drafted as high as possible.
