I'm still pissed they out lights in Wrigley.twocoach wrote: ↑Wed Nov 27, 2024 12:27 pmOr they change something about a uniform (last night's were spectacular by the way). There's always some change that can be complained about and all changes get complained about. So it goes.
I do not envy the poor bastard who has to make the decision to move on from AFH. Hopefully it doesn't happen until well after I am gone but it will happen some day.

Re: F the NCAA
good one!
For me, the difference is encountering an ad at a place I'm not used to seeing it (over twocoach's username) versus somewhere I am (on a court, around a court, around the rest of a sports venue, around the rest of...well...*gestures at everything*
I agree that I'd rather not have ads either on a user name nor a basketball court, and for that matter not quite so many anywhere.
and FWIW my friend who went to China says one of her favorite parts was not being constantly advertised to

thanks to the advertising on the court, i now know that the Maui Invitational is sponsored by Novavax
cool
cool
Have we fallen into a mesmerized state that makes us accept as inevitable that which is inferior or detrimental, as though having lost the will or the vision to demand that which is good?
Re: F the NCAA
the thing I don't understand is I don't believe an advertisement has ever made me decide to do something....or not do something...or change my mind. I dont see a commercial or an ad and think...."Ah...shit, yep. That's what I'm gonna do now"KUTradition wrote: ↑Wed Nov 27, 2024 9:00 pm thanks to the advertising on the court, i now know that the Maui Invitational is sponsored by Novavax

TDub, i hear you, and i suspect that nearly everybody reading this feels/thinks exactly the same thing. but if it doesn't work, then these companies wouldn't be doing it.TDub wrote: ↑Wed Nov 27, 2024 9:18 pmthe thing I don't understand is I don't believe an advertisement has ever made me decide to do something....or not do something...or change my mind. I feel the same way - that advertising has very little actual influence upon me and my consumer decisions.
If anything, it might make me more likely to avoid certain brands, cuz it’s just like welp all these ads are annoying so I don’t wanna do bidness wit dem.
Ads are so oversaturated that we’ve been conditioned to tune out ads too. The commercial break during a teevee show or game is the time to go to the bathroom or go get a fresh cup of mulled wine, not stop and do your homework on market choices you prob have no interest in anyway.
I think ad retention is very low too…even just after talking about it it and seeing it this morning, I honestly couldn’t tell you what the name of that bank or whatever on the court was right now if I had to…some acronym? AC/DC? Pen 15? Vandelay Industries?
I also wonder if ads are less about actual building brand awareness and consumer knowledge, and more some game theory kinda thing…well if everybody else is doing it then we better too…

Re: F the NCAA
The one ad that DOES come to mind, is the 90s Chevy truck commercials.
Cuz I mean who wouldn’t wanna drive a truck thru giant mud puddles, while listening to Bob Seger, in slow motion.

Re: F the NCAA
A large part of it is just getting the brand recognizable. The average consumer will pick a brand they’ve heard of over one they haven’t. So yes subliminal.
You also want to target someone who is looking specifically for a product of your type. If they are shopping around and they see something specifically related to that it might sway them to make the move. All about that conversion rate.
