Have we fallen into a mesmerized state that makes us accept as inevitable that which is inferior or detrimental, as though having lost the will or the vision to demand that which is good?
Re: trump’s promises
The rube bloodletting is going to get very weird this time around. How ridiculous can they get before the rubes take a step back. This will be fun to watch, except of course for the innocent bystanders who die in the process.KUTradition wrote: ↑Mon Dec 02, 2024 8:14 amjfcjfish26 wrote: ↑Mon Dec 02, 2024 8:13 amI mean, he's probably already bought some pills from him.KUTradition wrote: ↑Mon Dec 02, 2024 8:10 am so, how about that kash patel?

They won't do things like his (or ban gay marriage, or whatever else), out loud anyway.
But they'll just make things harder; schools won't get federal funding if they require vaccines, for example, or you won't get to claim a dependent tax credit for an adopted child of a same-sex married couple.

Re: trump’s promises
Of course what’s going to happen is something like (1) the Trump administration will measure inflation by the cost of eggs only, (2) the Trump administration will artificially suppress the cost of eggs by giving massive taxpayer handouts to egg farmers and (brace yourselves) (3) MAGA will have faith in government inflation statistics all of the sudden.

Imagine their chagrin when they realize it isn't so much "great" for them.

The Harris campaign made this very clear and many expert economists weighed in on it as well. I read numerous articles and saw it in numerous Harris ads and speeches.
Trump voters just either chose not to believe it, chose to ignore it because of something else or never received the info because of how their social media feeds are set up.
Add it to the Misinformation thread.

What they will do is to remove requirements for vaccines for public schools and will threaten any district who continues to require them with cutting off any federal funding they receive. Then they will use that lessening of funds, and the inevitable reduction in testing scores, to arm districts with what they need to vote in school vouchers so that private school owners and those who own companies that supply them, can enrich themselves even further.

circa 2024 deficits are meaningless. it's all just funny money.
but if they do keep you up at night:
step 1. get all them teet suppling deadbeat countries off the teet.
step 2. get all them teet suppling deadbeat people off the teet.
get all the deadbeats off the teet and the money be flowing like wine.
do your portion or you are cutoff.

Re: trump’s promises
Yeah.
This is responsive to japhy also - I don't think it should be taken as a given that Trump's voters will even realize that this isn't so "great" for them. I certainly would not expect very many of them to ever admit it.
There were data-backed reasons (too many quality studies to count) to believe that the economy was (prior to and at the election), even on a personal level, stronger than people's reported perceptions of it. There have been, since the election, data-backed reasons to believe this is true (including on a personal level) also; consider the immediate flip in reported perceptions, and strong holiday season travel and spending.
I think a hard but important truth to grasp is that many Trump voters did not vote for Trump because they perceived the economy to be bad...but perceived the economy to be bad because they wanted to vote for Trump.
And that susceptibility to confirmation bias suggests that people who want to vote for Trump again will, the next time around, discredit or disregard data that shows that Trump's economy stinks. Whether that data is in the form of graphs and charts and tables, or of their own account statements.
A huge bloc in our country - possibly a plurality all on its own - wants the whole Trump/MAGA package. Even if it's worse for their personal economies.
Re: trump’s promises
I believe, as a legal matter, most of our aid to Ukraine has in fact been in the form of loans and deferred-purchase-price sales.
Whether we ever get paid of course is far from certain.
But someone who thinks like you do - and on this point we agree - should be STRONGLY in favor of Biden, in the next 4-6 weeks, throwing our country's support behind the release to Ukraine of the hundreds of billions of dollars that has been seized from Russia/ns by way of sanctions.
This is something Trump most certainly will not do.
Re: trump’s promises
and the same goes for is-re-al.
i'm conflicted where is-ra-el is comcerned. i favor the middle east blowing its'self off the earth into smithereens. and i'm not sure if us aiding them is speeding up. or slowing down that process.

Here is an interesting report from 2022. I am sure there is a newer one out there but it gives a glimpse into what the money is being used for.jfish26 wrote: ↑Tue Dec 03, 2024 10:20 amI believe, as a legal matter, most of our aid to Ukraine has in fact been in the form of loans and deferred-purchase-price sales.

RESULTS:
With the support of Congress, the $10 billion provided to date has been used to:
● make direct payments to 395,000 IDPs;
● provide housing subsidies to 4.1 million Ukrainian citizens to pay for utilities;
● pay salaries for over 618,000 teachers, school workers, and professors;
provide one-time payments for 287,000 temporarily unemployed people;
● purchase 7,100 tons of humanitarian goods for affected regions of Ukraine; and
● pay salaries for over 150,000 civil service employees and over 506,000 healthcare
employees.
USG-provided budget support was critical in minimizing disruptions to service delivery and
damage to human capital, and helping to maximize capacity for GOU-led recovery.
The US is helping to keep their government afloat while Russia rapes and destroys their resources, infrastructure and citizens, preventing them from being able to generate enough tax revenue to survive on their own.
