Re: 2024/2025 Lineup
I like how Self is using the portal to get both 1 year guys (Zeke, Coit) and multi year guys (HD, KM, and hopefully Aj and Rylan).
He's doing as well as anyone in the portal era.

Excellent interview, he seems relieved to have been pardoned.

"No update on Shak," Self said. "He's seen the doctors. He's not 100 percent. He may not even be 85 percent. He may not be that 100 percent all year long. I mean, he had surgery, and so there's going to be some discomfort and all that stuff when you have surgery. It's not at the point now where he feels like he can contribute, which to me, is disappointing, not that he's not out there, but the fact, after this much time, he doesn't feel like he can really go on it. But I also think that we'll get him back out there, but it's going to take at least a month longer than what we anticipated it being."
…
With Moore's return date up in the air, Self was asked if the guard would ever take a medical redshirt.
"I don't think so," Self said. "I can't say positively, because I don't know how he's going to respond a month from now. But we didn't recruit him here to play next year. We recruited him to play this year."

Have we fallen into a mesmerized state that makes us accept as inevitable that which is inferior or detrimental, as though having lost the will or the vision to demand that which is good?

I was holding out hope for a redshirt. I think Self is already comfy with Coit and knows Shak isn't going to beat him out after this much time away. The adjustment period will take too long. And Coit gives us more of what we need (shooting).

Re: 2024/2025 Lineup
Dajuan Harris currently leads the big 12 in assist/TO ratio, and is 2nd in total assists and assists per game.
Re: 2024/2025 Lineup
Around 20th or so in each category nationally. Solid but unspectacular. He has improved from last year which is nice to see.

Dajuan has been really good for us this season. "Solid but unspectacular" is discrediting to his work
Re: 2024/2025 Lineup
Yea, Dajuan's been good.
Career highs in FTA, FT%, 2P%, eFG%, and PPG.
Small sample size so far but I think he can finish the season averaging more new career highs, including maybe even eclipsing double-digit PPG. His assists might go up with more talent to dish to, too. If his numbers do not go up, it's cuz his minutes are down, which is a good thing, cuz he looks fresher over the course of the game, and hopefully the season too.
Perhaps more importantly, I think he passes the eye test. He's looked more poised, taken fewer bad shots or dumb TOs, and just generally looked good when we need him to. Here's to that final-year-in-the-program magic.

even if he is likely to shirt, no way Self says it yet.
A lot can change a month from now either way.
Re: 2024/2025 Lineup
He has been really good. Very solid. Very consistent. That's what this team needs him to be. He isn't spectacular by any means. Harris is tied for 19th in the country in assists per game. Only three of the players above him on that list average less points per game than Harris. Only two average less rebounds than Harris. None of them have a lower 3pt fg%. One very nice thing is that only one of them averages less turnovers per game than Harris, which is awesome and exactly what KU needs from him. I think "solid but unspectacular" is pretty much exactly what he is.randylahey wrote: ↑Tue Dec 03, 2024 9:03 am Dajuan has been really good for us this season. Re: 2024/2025 Lineup
Shak could be needed more next season when don't have dajuan, even tho we get elmarko back, and probably selfs best guard recruit ever
But is shak the missing piece this season?

Re: 2024/2025 Lineup
No but this season's team seems to be the more title-ready team of the two so he is more important this year than next year.randylahey wrote: ↑Tue Dec 03, 2024 1:26 pm Shak could be needed more next season when don't have dajuan, even tho we get elmarko back, and probably selfs best guard recruit ever

That's what I thought too....randylahey wrote: ↑Tue Dec 03, 2024 1:26 pm Shak could be needed more next season when don't have dajuan, even tho we get elmarko back, and probably selfs best guard recruit ever
Now, I think Self has decided he can get someone better than Shak for that spot. Which is probably a reasonable conclusion. Shak signed a 1 year contract.
Re: 2024/2025 Lineup
the only way I see Shak being a "missing piece" is if he can be at least one of:
- a sub for Dajuan in some defense-and-facilitator role that is superior to the Zeke/Diggy thing we got going
- a sub for Dajuan that does at least one specific thing (like shooting or something) better than Dajuan (and/or Zeke/Diggy), without loosing too many of the other things
- a sub next to Dajuan that's somehow better than Zeke/Diggy
that's to say, I just dunno if any of those things are likely, especially happening a month from now.
Trade that off with: potential a full season in a big role, maybe even starting spot, as an experienced super senior with a redshirt year learning the system.

Re: 2024/2025 Lineup
Well we haven't seen anything from shak here at Kansas, but the scouting report is that he is an experienced high level athlete and defender. If he's important to this team, that would be why

Shak is just a relative last-minute portal get.
If Self wants a PG for next year and thinks he can do better with a full portal window, I'm sure he can.
