That's an.... ummmmm… average lineup..
We should be ecstatic for this lineup.
That lineup is damn near best-case, and would be capable of winning 32+ games and a title.

Don't know if Hurt replaces Dedric's production.
Who knows about Grimes and how he produces.
Dotson can improve in multiple areas, but he was still really good.
McCormack will be better with another offseason.
Ochai needs to work on that shot and defense.

Basically what I'm getting at, is there is a LOT of unknowns.

As Fish said, that is almost best case. Probably won't happen.

We're going to lose a lot of counting stats in the exchange of Dedric for anyone else. If I had to bet, I'd bet that Bill won't have another player at KU who puts up Dedric's counting stats.

But - god damn right I'd also bet big on a backcourt of Dotson, Grimes and Och. Give me Stanley and Hurt, also? Sure. Realistically, the only other piece out there that could fall in place would be a grad transfer big who can do a reasonable Tarik impression.

Where do we stand with Stanley and Hurt?

KU had felt they were in a good position with Hurt but recently things have swayed in Duke's favor. We know that Hurt will get immediate PT at KU but Duke is also going to lose Zion, Cam, and RJ which also means immediate PT. Remove all 'other' offers and incentives if you had the choice between Duke and KU who would you choose? IMO, that moves Hurt off of the board. Next is Stanley, who I have always believed is going to be a West Coast guy.
Zero way we get both of them and I don't like KU's chances of landing either one of them.

If the incoming freshman from KC can shoot as good as advertised, he'll earn some minutes next year.

The other kid from ARK is a four star recruit.

As I've talked about here previously.

I'd be all for Self getting the McBride's and Braun's of the world and have them be great Juniors and Seniors compared to highly recruited guys like a Grimes or Alexander, who are full of unknowns for the most part.

Wut? If it's this ( you forgot Garrett ) we are kinda stacked imo.
That's a top 10 team.

And to be honest, that's probably where Self needs to turn his head to. It's getting harder to go head-to-head with Duke, Kentucky and others. But experience is one of the biggest reasons for success in March.

Yeah looking back. Didn't think the post through very well.

These things don't have to be either/or. KU's best teams have had those types of guys and McD's kids.

If we even get 1 of them, I'm ecstatic.

2019 just seems like it's going to be collateral damage from the FBI stuff.

That's fine. Let's make next season our 2007.

If we get Hurt or Precious, I think we can figure out how to make up Dedric's output.
Either one would be a huge win.

Sure. Give me a coin-flip-or-so for a Final Four berth, with reasons to think the following year could be exceptional.

Well, the issue with 2 years from now being a 2008 is that I'm pretty sure Dotson and Grimes would not be here.

That's probably right. And we're not likely to get (and should not hope for) a miracle exploding ACL.

But Chalmers and Arthur could have left, and didn't.

Precious could be another clearinghouse hurdle.

Went to a basketball factory prep school. The profile for his brother, God'sgift Achiuwa, states that they're from Nigeria. God'sgift went to St. John's from Nigeria--not sure how long Precious has been in the states.

I'd prefer Hurt - and for a bit there it looked like he was very Kansas lean.
Maybe he still is ... but missing on both wouldn't be great.

I was thinking about this the other day...does anyone recall what UNC's 'crootin rankings were when they had the academic scandal cloud hanging over them?
Three scenarios I can think of why this years class has been a miss along with missing out on other players thought to be KU favorites.
1. NCAA drama
2. Self and his staff have lost the touch
3. Self is moving on and can't lie to kids when asked about his own commitment level

They were bad. If I recall, UNC went several years (up until this year) without a McD's kid.

We dont need Hurt to replace Lawson's production. We need the other 4 guys to improve at the rate good freshmen usually improve and for Hurt to be good at moving the ball and decent at shooting.

There are fewer unknowns in this offseason than we typically have if the guys who seem likely to come back do come back.
