President-elect Donald Trump has tapped billionaire and two-time commercial astronaut Jared Isaacman to lead NASA.

Isaacman is the CEO of Shift4 Payments, a payment processing company, and has been to space twice on missions chartered with Elon Musk's SpaceX. Earlier this year, Isaacman became the first commercial astronaut to float outside his spacecraft…
I don’t know, you guys, I’m starting to wonder if this whole “efficiency” thing is not so much “more efficient use of taxpayer funds” and more like “more efficient transfer of taxpayer funds to billionaires.”
That is entirely what this is.

Half of the country is 100% not surprised, while the other half will remain convinced that it isn't true.

I don't think anyone could have predicted that Trump and Republicans were likely to make cuts to our social safety net programs like Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, in addition to the Affordable Care Act. (Trump's got a "concept tho, so not to worry.)

Talk about the "Good Ol' Days"! Pretty soon, with higher health care and health care insurance bills and less Social Security to make ends meet forcing elders to live with their adult children like back in first half of the last century, we'll have 3 and even 4 generations of the family all living under one roof before long!

I also heard Republicans are going to extend the Trump tax cuts mainly for the already obscenely rich. I'm sure japhy appreciates it.

Now do a pie chart of how much will trickle down to our resident Trumpistas!

I believe in some ways some if not a lot of it actually does "trickle down" to most/all citizens but that's arguing semantics.

I realize there is a difference between "realized" and "unrealized" capital gains.
As someone who is not a member of "the rich", I will go on record right now saying, I'm 100% in favor of "the rich" getting tax breaks on capital gains - as long as they pay the "fair" taxes on the original "capital" AND continue to be generous in other ways than simply just giving our government their money because they made money on/with their money.

I just took a look at the Giving Pledge.
At least 10 people/couples on there who I have personally dealt with in the past 5 years, in regards to some of their charitable contributions - other than just political contributions.
Sorry Ousy and those others of you on here who truly believe most "rich people" are evil.....
Sure, MANY are evil but I choose to believe (and personally know) many are fantastic wonderful people.
I get really tired of those who are fantastic wonderful people getting looped in with the "evil" people based on nothing at all - other than their having a lot of money.

You can't have everything, and to get what you want, you have to make sacrifices. (Can't believe I have to point that out.) So, as long as Trump still hates all the same people they do and gives them someone to blame, maybe higher prices, inflation, a lower standing of living, a slowing economy, and an economic recession, seem worth it?

The answer is going to be, “yes, because we already had those things under the Biden-Harris regime anyway.”

I think the distinction is more like...

though both parties can be blamed for a lower standard of living, Pubs at least offer a scapegoat too (for better or worse).

In contrast, Dems go for some gaslight about how the standard of living is actually much better than you think it is.

Have we fallen into a mesmerized state that makes us accept as inevitable that which is inferior or detrimental, as though having lost the will or the vision to demand that which is good?

It's not gaslighting to say it is better than MAGA is claiming it is because they are right. It really isn't as awful as MAGA is claiming. And you're claim that it is gaslighting just goes to show how necessary those statements are because you're so convinced that MAGA is right that you see any attempt to point out that they are overdramatizing it to win the election as gaslighting.

gaslighty response, twocoach!

Trust me, I am not convinced that MAGA Is right.

I think both of these things can be true: that MAGA can claim it's more awful than it is, and also that Dems can claim it's better than it is.

I do think that if voters actually perceived things (like standard of living) being as good as Dems say it is, Dems wouldn't have had their asses handed to them last month.

Where this messaging has been so successful is that people like ous don’t really mean what MAGA means by “lower standard of living,” but they attach their own grievances to it.

That is how Trump gets elected as an agent of change…even when the changes are going to benefit a sliver, and harm a great many, of those in favor of “change.”

ha, yeah, fair enough.

My grievances about standard of living are less racist and more about...well, standard of living.

(in the traditional sense of the term, as some economic metric)

and not that I want to give any credit at all to a single MAGA voter, but, I also think there may be some otherwise-decent, not necessarily motivated by racism, sorts of voters who went for Trump - gross, I know! - cuz they too were concerned about more traditional (read: economic) sorts of grievances about standard of living.

I think that's a big part of how dems lost so many younger and working-class and of-color voters.

I'm afraid many folks really are feeling economically squeezed. And, if it comes down to believing dems refraining "no yer not!" or believing their own pocket book, which do you expect them to believe?

All of this is exactly what I’m saying. In order to advance their nativist agenda, MAGAs quite successfully got non-nativists to attach themselves to the message.

nah.

like, big nah.

I didn't attach myself to shit.

economic concerns are bigger than just the MAGA message.

To think "if you have economic concerns then you're attaching yourself to MAGA" seems more like, once again, just your own incredibly partisan views on display. You come across as if you think economic concerns couldn't be anything more than a red-or-blue thing.

But since you brought it up - speaking of MAGAs quite successfully getting "non-nativists" to attach themselves to the message, did you already forget Kamala's stance on the border?
