We don't play 5 out?

Storr has had plenty of room to drive. He's not finishing and/or he can't get by his man because he's not very fast and isn't just going to finish over guys like a more athletic type player (wiggins or selden or wright).

We play a true center. He has as much to do with defenders being camped in the paint as anyone.

We've also gone plenty of minutes this season with HD off the floor, or KJ off the floor, and it's not like suddenly the flood gates open and Storr is driving and getting easy layups at the rim and looking like a future 1st round NBA draft pick.

It's a combination of things. KJ impacts spacing a hell of a lot more than DH does.

I'm not sure why it's logical that Zeke has the spacing to drive, but Storr doesn't.

Griffen doesn't drive much regardless. He didn't at Bama either. Like I said, he's only averaging 1 less free throw per 40 minutes this year than he did at Bama.

Also, not sure if you've noticed, but defenders go under ball screens on Storr too. It's not just DH.

I know stats don't matter, but Storr is 3rd in shot attempts per 40. He's getting plenty of shots. He's not making them.

How come Braun Wilson Gradey McCullar and Och could all find spacing to drive with DH and/or KJ and a post big DMac, but Storr can't?

Is it possibly not as complicated as some try to make it? Maybe those guys are just better at driving and basketball in general? Which is why they're on NBA rosters and not coming off the bench at KU?

I think you should watch the games instead of reading reports from guys that know as much as you.

Then, you can create your own panic button agenda instead of repeating others claims while also admitting you dont watch the games....and the ones you do watch are in bars. Where I'm sure you aren't distracted at all

I didn't watch vs MIZZOU but it sure looked like Dajuan and Zeke were doing a good job v NC State at attacking the basket.

Remember all the lob plays we'd run for our wings CB Och Gradey KM etc.?

There is a reason the only successful lob plays we've ran this year have been for KJ (or Bidunga in p&r).

is it because we haven't benched Dajuan yet?

I mean does he have any tattoos??

I'm trying to figure out why in the 9min per game that DH is on the bench that we actually look worse and not better? Or why these guys that DH is having such a negative impact on don't thrive in those scenarios, they actually look worse.

Make it make sense.

man ain't that the truth, our offense completely flounders when he goes to the bench, it's infuriating

Also, since i watched Tennessee closely the other night when they played illinois....

Zakai Ziggler is similar to DH. Pass first PG. Initiates all of their offense. Shooting 31% from 3pt this season (33% 3pt career). Opponents go under ball screens against him. And he's 5'9.

They also start Jahmai Mashack. A non offensive threat. 29% from 3pt this season. Defensive specialist. Only attempts 4 FGs per game. Smaller than KJ and plays guard/wing. But same idea when it comes to spacing and playing 2 guys who aren't score first players.

They're undefeated and the #1 team in the country.

This idea that we should burn down the foundation because we don't have score first players at all 5 positions is laughable.

Like B2L has pointed out numerous times lately, we don't need ALL of Griffen Coit Storr or Passmore to be world beaters. If we just get 1 or 2 of those guys to show up nightly scoring wise, we are in really good shape roster wise. Or if 1 has a light go on and really turns it on, then we are immediately right back in the convo as best team in the country.

HD is 7'2. Regardless of how fun his play style is to watch, he's vastly improved this year defensively due to experience in our system. He's hedging and blitzing screens better, trapping better, influencing opponents interior shots better. Is he Cole or Withey? Obviously not. But he's averaging a career high in steals, at almost 2 per game, and right on his career blocks average around 1.5 per game. And that's playing 5 less minutes per game (which is ideal). Fresh legs. And Bidunga can't play much more than he's playing anyway because he fouls so much.

We are not far off. But we can't get duds offensively from Zeke Storr Griffen and Coit ALL in the same game and expect to win. Especially, if like Self said, DH and KJ aren't having big offensive nights (which they still have occasionally). But if 1 or 2 of those guys have good games offensively, we immediately become a legit title contender.

We are not far off. You don't need perfect/flawless players at all 5 positions. Nobody has that. Go through the rosters. Every team has offensively limited guys and/or defensively focused rotation players.

This isn't the NBA where if you've got 1 guy who either can't score or can't defend that the other teams can focus their entire scheme on.

KJ was playing the 4 last year, and yet McCullar was still able to drive.

Storr's troubles can't be blamed on DH and KJ. Sorry. I'm not buying it.

KJ primarily played the 5 or was on the bench when those guys had spacing

Mccullar settled for a ton of 3s and mid range

We all know KJs lack of shooting hurts our spacing. It is what it is. He does a lot of other go things for us tho. Pairing him next to a 7 footer you want on the block isn't ideal for spacing

There are reasons why some freakishly gifted players are lightly recruited. Sometimes it’s because they’re bad apples.

That’s not KJ.

But sometimes it’s because they’re sized and shaped wrong for their gifts translating to this level of play.

That’s KJ.

He can play at this level. But ideally it would be in a more limited role where he can abuse second-line guys. That’s not the role we have him in.

Kj played over 33min per game last year. Hunter 32min per game last year. So KJ was not usually at the 5 with KM last season.

KM attempted almost 6 free throws per game last year.

Agree KJ and HD paired together clogs the lane, but it's a marginal at best excuse for why Storr can't get to the basket. I blame Storr's lack of explosiveness and speed a whole hell of a lot more than I do KJ or HD or DH. It's not stopping Zeke or DH from driving.

How much space are we expecting Storr to need to look even remotely worth the money we paid for him? There are always 10 guys on the court and only so much space, regardless of how many shooters are out there.

Here's a not so hot take:

KJs lack of outside shooting impacts Hunter significantly more than it does Storr or Griffen. And yet HD still finds ways to be impactful most nights.

These podcasts they do are funny. We've got some good personalities on the team this year.

I miss the Lightfoot and Teahan podcast. Did they stop doing that?

Yes. But that’s also the argument for four-out. Which was effective in extended run the other day.
