Green New Deal
Re: Green New Deal
So, all of you who are out there nitpicking the hell out of the GND draft.......
You OK with this: https://www.cnbc.com/2016/12/12/pipelin ... Ol2ISNCGbA
You are complaining about your dining table getting scratched when your house is on fire!

Re: Green New Deal
Nobody is okay with an oil spill like that. Obviously. It is horrible.
Re: Green New Deal
So what are you doing about it? Besides of course trying every which way to hinder those who are actually trying to do something about it.

Re: Green New Deal
If I lived in, say Nebraska, with a depleting aquifer, something like an oil spill so soon after the pipeline was rammed through would worry me.
Re: Green New Deal
And fairly so.
But the conclusion -- drawn here by ZSN -- that if you don't accept every stoopid thing in the GND enthusiastically and entirely, then you MUST thoroughly enjoy spilling oil into waterways, is not just asinine but morally repugnant as well.

Re: Green New Deal
I get what you're saying, but in all honesty, what ARE people doing to put an end to this type of thing?
It's a fair question from ZSN.

Re: Green New Deal
That oil spill was equal in volume to about 1/4 of an Olympic swimming pool. The private sector companies involved are held liable for cleanup and damages for spills they’re responsible for. When EPA employees screwed up and caused a spill 17 times larger and more toxic into the Animas River, no one got fired and the EPA refused to pay damages. Are you going to say government has more incentive to be careful of the environment?
However, compare either one of those spills to what’s going to happen when the GND would cause the demand for rare earth elements to skyrocket. Those elements are essential for the solar and wind technology so necessary for the GND’s goals. Here’s what’s happening now before such an increase in demand:

How’s that for nitpicking? Would you like to see legislation prohibiting the Sierra Club, Greenpeace, and other groups from filing lawsuits about habitat destruction over rights of way needed for high speed rail? It would probably be necessary, because they could keep the “dream” from happening. That’s not to mention habitats where the thousands of new wind and solar farms will be needed.
Let’s ban NIMBY lawsuits against offshore wind farms in places like Cape Cod, Martha’s Vineyard, Malibu, Carmel, and Santa Barbara.
If you think the United States should lead the way by example, why shouldn’t the government lead the country by example. Ban air conditioning in Washington, D.C., and in federal government buildings elsewhere. Ban air travel by federal government employees to places they can reach by train or bus. Lets see them lower their carbon footprint.

He also referred to Ocasio-Cortez as a “garden-variety hypocrite,” in response to a New York Post story that said the Democrat frequently used gas-guzzling Uber and Lyft rides during her 2018 campaign instead of taking the subway station near her campaign office.

I notice that a lot of environmentalists don't drive electric cars. What's up with that? Trad?

Knowing little about what you speak of, let alone having any sort of expertise, seems to be an acceptable trait for becoming President. You could fill a semi trailer with the stupid $#!t that gets belched out from the pie hole of our elected officials on a daily basis. Toss this on the heap with the rest of it.
We can start a new heap tomorrow.
We elected these dumasses.
