I would argue Shirley's role/job was probably more important and beneficial to others than your job is.
Potentially more demanding, and rewarding too.

I truly give you credit for wanting (?) to "train" people who want to become therapists.
What I don't give people in psych field credit for is - the amount of absolute quacks there are, and being fully aware of it, and yet very little (at least not enough) is done about it.

I do the $325 an hour job 10 hours a week. I could do it 40+ hours a week, but I prefer teaching. I learned a long time ago that life is too short to spend all of it doing things you don't like so much. I work on the 7 online classes I teach every night from 9:00 to Midnight or 1:00 am after the wife goes to bed with the little one. She gets up at 5:00 and works on her 6 online classes until the little one wakes up and I get her ready for daycare. We both also work large chunks of Saturday, and I work about four hours on Sunday.

We live on very little of what we bring in. Both of us max out our retirement accounts monthly, dump $3,000 each in our emergency fund, and another $1,000 in a fund for our daughter so she can go to private school once she gets old enough, and have no debt other than our mortgage. I am using the skills and opportunities I have to set up my family for when I am gone.

So you won’t take the $650K job, so that you can work 60 hours a week for a fraction of that amount, at what you enjoy, because you want to take care of your family after you are gone, while complaining about the cost of eggs and gasoline.

Damn, there is a lot of martyrdom to unpack there.

In the meantime, you voted to reduce taxes on large corporations and stockholders and to increase tax dodges for the same and to increase food/goods costs and add inflation for yourself.

If nothing else it is on brand.

Like every thing he says, I imagine he is full of shit. Living a meager existence and getting by. Regretting decisions he made along the way.

This is why he puts many of us (who work our balls off, take risks, GET SHIT DONE) in a negative light. He has to find a tiny little thing to feel good about. He wishes he had the intestinal fortitude to jump out and claim his place, but he can’t.

His failings aren’t his to own, somehow, YOU/THEY are to blame.

His pompous and arrogant quips are his way of clamoring for higher ground. If he is failing, he claims intellectual high ground.

That way, while you succeed, he still somehow wins.

It doesn’t make his personal situation better. But, if it makes YOU feel slightly less secure…he considers it a win!
