I haven't been able to see Mt Hood for over a week now.
it wasn’t that long ago (a few years) that we were considering relocating to PNW. i even applied to a few federal jobs in the region

kinda glad that didn’t happen

When I was a kid, we were heading from KC to RMNP and heard on the ole CB radio that the Big Thompson had flooded big time. Re-routed to Ouray.
This sucks just as bad

My FIL has lived in Loveland for a long time. He still talks about that flood (‘76).

The flood in 2013 was pretty wild, too. Several of the stores along the river just washed away as the route straightened behind the force of the historical level waters.

There was a good sized store, ‘Indian Village’, on one particular corner, that was noticeably gone after the fact. The road up to Drake and on up to Estes took about 5 years to completely fix. Driving it 2 years later during construction was like being on another planet with all the boulders displaced and dropped wherever gravity found it fit.

I couldn’t get to Denver for work. 285 in Greeley was shut down from the South Platte. I25 a mess just South of Johnstown where Big Thompson crosses at bottom of hill, and further west…no chance.

I remember that 2013 flood. They were evacuating folks thru the park and into/thru Grand Co. My buddy set up a grill and served hot dogs along the side of the road to evacuees.

in a moment of understanding this is the wrong way to look at things and only being semi serious

I wonder what the multi millionaire dollar mansions turning to ash in Malibu is going to do to the regular persons homeowners insurance? All those millions of expenses going to get spread out across the rest of the the policy holders

My guess is billions (probably plural) (not millions) of expenses.
It will probably have a bearing on the "regular" person's homeowners (and business owners) insurance.
Moral of the story is....... What?

Moral of the story is something like,

nationalize the insurance industry.

Get rid of the for-profit middlemen. And the marketing too, cuz it's not like this is or should be just another discretionary consumer luxury product. Make insurance about actually insuring people, rather than maximizing shareholder returns.

This comment works just as well in the Luigi thread too.
