I doubt I am smarter than you. I don’t know what there is about the economy that is better, aside from the investment portfolios that all the highfalutin folks around here brag about. For those of us who have to invest in TIAA through our employers, the returns are abysmal, groceries are super expensive, gas, electricity, water, and insurance keeps going up, and wages don’t keep up. The Overlanders of the world can chalk it up to us all being loosers, but the reality is that I am surrounded by good, honest, hardworking people who have spent the last four years stretched thin and looking for hope. Telling people that our situation “is the envy of the world” is no help.RainbowsandUnicorns wrote: ↑Sat Jan 11, 2025 6:37 pmI have no doubt you are a smarter man than I am.JKLivin wrote: ↑Sat Jan 11, 2025 5:45 pmI’m concerned with the ones that impact everyday people like me.RainbowsandUnicorns wrote: ↑Sat Jan 11, 2025 2:10 pm

Re: trumpty plumpty
But that isn't true. I made out very well with secured investments last year. TIAA sure as Hell isn't Biden's fault. We just broke earnings records the last two years.

We'll thank you not to confuse things with reality.
It doesn't fit our ideology.

Don't doubt you are smarter than me. I'm confident you are.
That's kind of irrelevant in this post being that I'm actually on the same page as you in some regards.
Like you, in the past couple of years I have rightfully bitched about inflation and how it has affected/impacted me.
MY salary increase/s have not reflected MY cost of living increases. It's been upsetting.
Forgetting me, many facets of "the economy" (that many on here have minimized) were (and continue to be) big enough factor/s that I said very well may (and did?) have a huge bearing on who would be elected President in 2024.
Unlike many (but not all) people who voted for Trump, I don't think Trump will wave his magic wand and everything will be fine and dandy, but things needed to change for many people and I get that they felt more of the same was not beneficial to them and why it had a bearing on their voting for Trump.
I do realize and recognize that there are economic things that have been improving (and dare I say thriving?) for most Americans but.... I also realize and recognize that in other regards less bad is still bad.
As you mentioned , for many their "investment portfolios" are a positive right now. I know you know generally speaking, people and companies making money is a good thing for "the economy" - and most if not all Americans.
That's part of why I said what I said in my previous posts.
The big problem going forward is..... While I believe Trump MAY have a positive impact on SOME economic things, I also strongly believe he will have a negative impact on others.

I just read an article, that, makes a lot for sense on the Greenland obsession. That being said I have a hard time trusting just about any source anymore.
Anyway, the gist of the article was thay in Trumps first term Putin had urged Trump to take Greenland (which would accomplish 2 things, divide Nato and help normalize powers taking over land again). After Trump won the election in one of his first calls with Putin, Putin supposedly "joked" that Trump had another chance since he was too "weak" to take Greenland in his first term.
This name calling apparently fired Trump up and now he's obsessed with taking somebodies land, somewhere, somehow just to prove to Putin that he isn't "weak".
Such a feeble minded, easily manipulated man.

Former intel chief Dan Coats believed "Putin had something on Trump"
Former Republican Senator and Former director of national intelligence Dan Coats could not shake his "deep suspicions" that Russian President Vladimir Putin "had something" on President Trump, seeing "no other explanation" for the president's behavior, according to Bob Woodward's new book "Rage," which was obtained by CNN ahead of its publication next week.
Why it matters: Coats was the president's top intelligence official from March 2017 until August 2019. Woodward reports that Coats and his staff examined the intelligence regarding Trump's ties to Russia "as carefully as possible" and that he "still questions the relationship" between Trump and Putin despite the apparent absence of intelligence proof.
Between the lines: The New York Times' Michael Schmidt reported in his new book that former Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein secretly curtailed an FBI counterintelligence probe into Trump's ties to Russia, meaning the full scope of decades of the president's personal and financial dealings there has never been explored.
The big picture: The explosive Woodward book, which is based in part on 18 interviews that Trump sat for with the veteran journalist, details the "tortured" tenure of Coats and other officials described by the Washington Post as "so-called adults of the Trump orbit" — including former Defense Secretary James Mattis and former Secretary of State Rex Tillerson.
At one point, Mattis went to Washington National Cathedral to pray for the country's fate under Trump's leadership, according to the Post's report on Woodward's book. He reportedly told Coats, "There may come a time when we have to take collective action" to speak out against Trump because he is "dangerous. He’s unfit."
In a later conversation reported by Woodward, Mattis told Coats, "The president has no moral compass." Coats reportedly responded, “True. To him, a lie is not a lie. It’s just what he thinks. He doesn’t know the difference between the truth and a lie."
