The veteran fire fighters in Cali themselves are saying climate change is creating events they’ve never seen before.
Who should we believe?
Scientists who study the data and fire fighters who are there using their eyes for the most legitimate of eye tests?
Or Psych who is a fucking idiot?

Re: Wildfires
I didn't say there was no climate change. I said that the firefighters and the homeowners were all dealing with the same winds, i.e. that the lack of resources (water, equipment, manpower) for the fire department played into their ineffectiveness.pdub wrote: ↑Sat Jan 11, 2025 5:47 pm The veteran fire fighters in Cali themselves are saying climate change is creating events they’ve never seen before.

But, by all means, go ahead and name-call and jump to conclusions. It's the norm around here.

Unlike you, I have standards and wouldn't waste my money on a publication that, while it regularly breaks "news" and is sometimes right, is also often wrong.
But, you do you, i.e., eat it up as long as it objectifies the people you love to hate.

Re: Wildfires
In the context of the discussion I was referring to the local cognoscenti’s contention that it is ALL attributable to climate change. The wind is ONE factor, and, as most people who live in the area have been saying, a more important issue is the $17 million in cuts to the department, lowered hiring standards, and mismanagement of water resources. Problems tend to have multiple causes, like it or not.
I realize that cuts into the usual “Psych is a moron/cunt/looser/cuck/asshole/rube”narrative, but it is nonetheless true.

Read this.
You probably won’t but try:

“ While the L.A. fire department’s annual operating budget has been growing overall — and is on track to exceed $950 million…”
Then take a stab at this.

“Funding for the city's fire department decreased by $17.6 million, or 2%, between the 2024-25 fiscal year and the 2023-24 fiscal year, according to city budget documents. However, the city council in November approved a four-year $203 million contract with the firefighter's union to help boost wages and health benefits for staff, drawing from the budget's general fund.”
Budget increases on the heels of major cuts that just kicked in and are phased in over a four year period don’t have much impact right now. At least, that’s how it reads to a dimwitted rube like me.

Re: Wildfires
While it’s debatable how that 17 million shakes out—it’s 17 out of over 900 million.
So what’s the bigger factor to the fires in California?
The fact the planet is getting warmer leading to extreme weather or a less than 2 percent decrease to a fire budget?

Re: Wildfires
Great question/s!
I believe if someone asked what (not WHO) do you feel is most responsible for the wildfires in California right now - the most common answer depending on if you ask a Republican or a Democrat would be ..... Democrats / Republicans.
I have a friend who is hard core environmentalist primarily living in California. She posted this about 36 hours ago...
The wildfire devastation around Los Angeles has left me—and all of us—heartsick. It’s more than the destruction of homes; it’s the loss of memories, of places that make a city feel alive—parks, restaurants, and familiar corners that shape our lives. For me, it was 20 years; for others, a lifetime. These are places where connections are made, where life unfolds, and losing them feels like erasing personal histories.
And then there’s the wildlife, displaced and lost, a reminder of the delicate balance between nature and the built environment. Can we even call these disasters “natural” anymore, when climate change has made them all too frequent and intense?
I am deeply grateful for the firefighters/inmates who risk their lives battling these relentless flames. To all my friends and fellow Angelenos, I am so very sorry for your loss and trauma. Know that the creativity and compassion that define this city will inspire your healing and help you emerge from this tragedy with a new outlook on our world, and hopefully finally spark nationwide action to tackle the climate crisis.

I think around 25 percent of the US would deny climate change has anything to do with it.
