The failure to support Israel by a US politician or party would be like them declaring they have no desire to be viable on a national scale. And if you're not in office, not only will you not be able to influence US Middle East policy, you won't be able to make any other policies, either.

Thanks.
But I still can’t help but think those concerns should be weighted against the consequences of what is happening as a result of our support, and also against the fact Bibi otherwise shits all over red lines our own leaders otherwise establish.

The House votes 243-140 in favor of the "Illegitimate Court Counteraction Act," which sanctions International Criminal Court officials who investigate, arrest, detain or prosecute any U.S. citizen or ally.
45 Dems joined 198 Pubs in backing the bill. No Republican voted against it.

Senator Hillary Clinton's statement on the ICC on February 13, 2005 seems to echo my concerns on what little I know of the ICC:BiggDick wrote: ↑Fri Jan 10, 2025 8:30 am The House votes 243-140 in favor of the "Illegitimate Court Counteraction Act," which sanctions International Criminal Court officials who investigate, arrest, detain or prosecute any U.S. citizen or ally.

"Fourth, Europe must acknowledge that the United States has global responsibilities that create unique circumstances. For example, we are more vulnerable to the misuse of an international criminal court because of the international role we play and the resentments that flow from that ubiquitous presence around the world. That does not mean, in my opinion, that the United States should walk out of the International Criminal Court. But it does mean we have legitimate concerns that the world should address, and it is fair to ask that there be sensitivity to those concerns that are really focused on the fact that the United States is active on every continent in the world. As we look to the future, there are so many opportunities for us to renew our relationship and we need to because we face so many challenges."
We are expected as a nation to have our troops involved in many situations all over the world and the ICC can turn into a way for a country with an axe to grind against the US to punish US soldiers for doing their jobs. Our troops should be shielded from such a court until some additional parameters and guardrails are more clearly defined. Until then, things like this "Illegitimate Court Counteraction Act" seem to be in our troops best interest.
Re: Let’s have a war!
Umm…sure.
But I think this particular act has more to do with particular allies accused of war crimes.
And considering the world wars fought and previous war crimes committed and everything it took for us as a planet to even get to something like an International Criminal Court, it might pretty cynical and hypocritical and just generally fucked up to sanction that court as soon as it tries to do its job.
Or should we say, as soon as it tries to do its job against someone besides the prescribed imperial “bad guys.”
That’s to say, as soon as it tries to do its job against us and/or our allies.
Cuz, spoiler alert: this act is not in shameless reactionary protest of the arrest warrant for Putin.

Re: Let’s have a war!
maybe you should write to your congressperson
Have we fallen into a mesmerized state that makes us accept as inevitable that which is inferior or detrimental, as though having lost the will or the vision to demand that which is good?
Re: Let’s have a war!
I have.
Aaaand look how much good it did!
Didn’t DC previously mock the idea of writing representatives as being completely useless?

The U.S.S. Slick Willy is pretty hilarious too.
But while Clinton's "history" leans more toward being a horn dog, W's rep leans more toward being a war criminal.
So to name a war ship after him, is almost like a gun manufacturer naming their latest product the Rittenhouse or the Luigi or something.
Plus, the jokes tend to get more mileage on these particular boards if you single out republicans, versus going for bipartisan lulz.

This ship has bern in service for a bit. (2006)
One of my favorite childhood memories was watching the ships come in to Pearl Harbor from my backyard. Strangely, we were about the only neighborhood on the island that had essentially private access to the water from our yards. State law in Hawaii make sure the waterfront is for public use.

You can see a man standing out in the water, about 100 yards from shore. And then you can see where the channel has been cut and the water drops from about 12 feet down to I think right at 100 now. Not sure what they’re required depth for the modern carriers is.
And if anyone is a nerd and wants to see any videos on this place, go to YouTube and search for Fort Kamehameha, or Hickam Flats

I still think about running for potus.
Pretty often in fact.
Cuz, among other reasons, there ain't a single red-blooded American who wouldn't love the U.S.S. BiggDick.

On second thought, that ship would be hard to keep on course, considering it kinda curves portside.
