Be honest. If Trump said something that dumb, you’d be all over it.
Trump says 25 things that dumb every day, the vast majority of which do not get discussed here at all. There simply isn't enough time or energy to cover every single dumb thing Trump says.
Right. But, when I choose to point out something colossally dumb that was said, it is a reflection of my insecurities and prejudices, not of the stupidity of the speaker.

Thanks for verbalizing yet another of the double standards that are foundational to this bored.

Such drama. She read a statement including a typo that didn't show the link it was supposed to. That's not "colossally dumb", that's just being rushed and not reviewing things before you step out in front of a microphone.

This is what you do. You blow off genuinely foul, unamerican things by Republicans, especially Republican men, and then overinflate innocuous mistakes by any Dem, especially Dem women, as more than they are and then complain that the two aren't treated the same.

Trust me, we let a million things this "colossally dumb" go every single day. Every word spoken by Trump, MTG, Boebert, Gaetz, RFK Jr., etc... would have to be discussed here if we didn't. Stupidity seems to be a requirement to be elected if you're MAGA.

There’s an appropriate remedy here.

I’ve already tried this with illy. But since he’s so stubbornly and repeatedly refused, and since I still think and hope you’re a decent enough guy even despite our relatively recent disagreements here, and since this is something you’ve suggested to me, then I’m suggesting it to you:

Would you consider just ignoring me?

Or otherwise simply leaving me alone.

If you do, I promise to leave you alone too, and won’t keep quoting you anyway even though I know you have me on ignore, just like you and illy kept doing to me

…please?

I think it's better to just move on, and maybe even try to keep the thread on topic otherwise.

You're the psych guy, maybe you can help me out.
3 questions.
1. Why do people acknowledge and focus on other people's "colossally dumb" moment/s more than on their own?
2. Why does someone defend one person for their "colossally dumb" moment/s but will ridicule someone else for doing the same exact thing?
3. In the USA, generally speaking, do White Men who are college educated tend to think Black Women who are college educated are less intelligent - as a whole?

1.) We all have psychological blind spots. The Johari Window is a good illustration of how that works and why we see ourselves more accurately with feedback from others.

2.) In-group bias. From an evolutionary standpoint, we are all wired to see those who look, think, act, and believe like we do. It starts in infancy (see link #2).

3.) I don't know that to be true. It might be better-explained #2 above.

I do find it hard to take seriously someone who a) doesn't know what a URL is and b) is either too unprepared or doesn't care enough to proofread and say, "Hey, we forgot to insert the actual URL here," or at least say "I'm sorry, but it looks like, in the midst of all the chaos, we forgot to insert the actual URL. Give me a minute, and I'll find out what it is."

Thank you for taking the time to respond.
I'm not going to ridicule Bass for what she said nor am I going to defend her.
As I said before, we all make dumb mistakes. Some we deserve to be cut some slack for and some we don't. I'm not the guy who I would count on to be the best ultimate judge of which is which.

On related (to the Wildfires) notes......
The 80 something year old woman that I work with asks me a couple of times a day - "Are the fires out yet". Each time she asks I respond - "I'm not there but I believe the correct answer is no". She responds, "It's the Santa Ana winds".
It's like a not funny comedy routine.
This morning I asked my co-worker whose mother has a home in Palisades if her house is ok and she said yes but the fire/s were (still are?) really damn close. I asked her if her mother wants to stay there - because it's got to be depressing as all heck seeing all the devastation. She said her mother is not staying in the house now. Understandable. For many reasons.

without researching, I'd guess it has more to do with their political stance than any other marker. I'm not sure he bashes conservative thinking women. If he does, your argument is correct. If not, it's not, his is.

That said, his comment earlier was still way over the top (the one I 'yikes'ed' <sic>).

Also, the convenient 'other side' of the water usage chart that those like Mich fail to even factor into consideration is agriculture. The ag industry accounts for 40% of the water usage in the state.

The corporate pursuit of profit has led to resistance/litigation (yeah, lots and lots of rich lawyers bc of this), and stymied advances in technological applications that could conserve a huge percentage of water use as compared to today's numbers.

But, again, this would take looking at both sides of the story.

By the way, the 'just use saltwater' argument is so dumb y'all should have just linked a single article outlining why it's not used and go from there. He's (Mich) not going to care to take that in, most likely, as it doesn't fit his narrative.

And finally, from my readings here, I'm glad some backed off on Ousdahl. I understand the frustration with him, and I've told him similar things to his face (via text)...but come on, take 15 seconds to not knee-jerk, or don't respond.

My first thought was....
Well gee, obviously someone drove it there and parked it AFTER the fire.

Then I read this....

and part of this....

While I do believe it, I admit I am still a little bit leery.
Here is something else I am pondering. Look closely. What do you notice directly across the street?
