Mayo played 36 minutes and shot 7-19DeletedUser wrote: ↑Wed Jan 15, 2025 8:23 pm Self fucked this up tonight.
Not nearly enough minutes for Bidunga Griffen or Shak tonight.
Also sat Zeke too much.
There is zero reason Passmore should play in a game like this. Zero reason Coit should play if he's not shooting. And zero reason to play AJ Storr.

Yes. And he was on the bench when the game went from within reach to out of reach. From the 5 or 6 minute mark to the 3 minute mark. Couldn't afford to have him on the bench during that stretch.twocoach wrote: ↑Wed Jan 15, 2025 9:54 pmMayo played 36 minutes and shot 7-19DeletedUser wrote: ↑Wed Jan 15, 2025 8:23 pm Self fucked this up tonight.

Eh.
You gotta give him some rest.
36 minutes is most of the game.

Re: 2024/2025 Lineup
Absolutely, but do it around the TV timeouts. And I don't see how he can be off the floor under 8min to go in a game where he's our only offense.
Maybe he was too gassed. Once his legs go his shot stops falling. So there's that. I'm sure Self had a reason. It just seemed odd to me that we had Zeke on the bench and Coit in the game when he was doing absolutely nothing last night.
Re: 2024/2025 Lineup
Ok maybe but I don’t think shifting Zekes 36 minutes by 2 minutes would have won us this.
We lost by a lot and honestly it should have been more.

HD has had some offensive duds in big games for us.
I think his defense was decent (relative to him). We blocked a ton of shots again last night.

Re: 2024/2025 Lineup
Huh? Bidunga hit a shot with 5:37 left to cut it to five. There was a TV timeout at 4:10 and Harris hit a shot with 3:15 to go to cut it to 7. The lead grew by just 2 points in that time.DeletedUser wrote: ↑Thu Jan 16, 2025 5:14 amYes. And he was on the bench when the game went from within reach to out of reach. Re: 2024/2025 Lineup
No one played well last night honestly. The effort was there for the most part. This team just cannot generate good offense and hit shots against decent opponents consistently.TDub wrote: ↑Thu Jan 16, 2025 7:15 amStorr and Coit killed us.DeletedUser wrote: ↑Thu Jan 16, 2025 5:14 amYes. Zeke should have been in the game. He's our best player.twocoach wrote: ↑Thu Jan 16, 2025 7:49 amHuh? Bidunga hit a shot with 5:37 left to cut it to five. Zeke attempted a 3pt shot with 5:23 left with us down 5.twocoach wrote: ↑Thu Jan 16, 2025 7:49 amHuh? Bidunga hit a shot with 5:37 left to cut it to five. He then went to the bench and their lead grew to 9.
By the time he was back in and attempted his next shot (which he missed) we were down 13.
Re: 2024/2025 Lineup
Last three games:
Hunter is 15/41 from the field (36.6%)
KJ is 6/20 from the field (30%)
It's not like those are three's either.
And they've combined for 12 free throw attempts in those three games.
That is AWFUL for a starting frontcourt. Just absolutely awful.

Idk why anyone thought they'd be a good front courtmjl2 wrote: ↑Thu Jan 16, 2025 12:30 pm Last three games:

One is big and skilled with no athleticism
One is extremely athletic but small and no skill
Combine them and you'd have a hell of a player
But individually they are misfit parts
Re: 2024/2025 Lineup
“Misfit parts” is the story of a lot of our last decade. So, too, are a hell of a lot of wins and trophies.
Re: 2024/2025 Lineup
There used to be one of the sports sites that had +/- stats down to the exact timeframes of a game when a player came in and out. I wish I could find it if it even still exists. I would love to see what each lineup did while it was on the floor.DeletedUser wrote: ↑Thu Jan 16, 2025 7:58 amZeke attempted a 3pt shot with 5:23 left with us down 5.twocoach wrote: ↑Thu Jan 16, 2025 7:49 amHuh? Re: 2024/2025 Lineup
I...guess?
but so many other seasons, if parts were "misfit," it was as much as anything prob cuz of things like injury, or getting F'd by the NCAA.
With this season, we have pretty much all the guys we wanted to have, don't we?
and yet...
Re: 2024/2025 Lineup
I think it is - like most things that go VERY wrong for VERY competent people - a case of multiple things going wrong at once.
Bill’s impatience with newcomers.
Bill’s loyalty to established guys.
The portal making for tantalizing roster adds.
The portal making for greater risk of losing guys.
Guys not developing.
And I will not DENY that there can be complacency and distraction from NIL etc.

The portal making for greater risk of losing guys. - I guess, but IIRC we lost no player to the portal this season
Guys not developing. - big time. Not only guys not developing, but maybe even regressing...at least statistically
And I will not DENY that there can be complacency and distraction from NIL etc. - I suppose I won't either. But we've also seen plenty of newcomers struggle here before NIL was ever a thing.
I think the three most significant explanation narratives are:
- doubling down on a controversial transfer who is an AA talent but in a Dedric kinda way
- doubling down on two returning starters from the pre-NIL/NCAA purgatory recruiting era who were prob never more than backup-level talent in the first place
- my fanboy theory regarding the explosion of Elmarko's knee

Re: 2024/2025 Lineup
When I talk about the risk of losing guys - it’s about giving some guys leashes that are too long (and there’s only so much leash to go around, which is how we end up with such sporadic and inconsistent minutes for some guys).
