Let’s have a war!

Re: Let’s have a war!
...In his final interview in the Oval Office Thursday night, Biden recalled one of Netanyahu’s retorts for refusing to end his country’s war on Palestine. He claimed that the Israeli leader told him in the early days of the conflict that the United States shouldn’t be policing other nations’ warfare strategies in light of the country’s long trail of devastation.
“When I went to Israel immediately after the attack led by Hamas, eight days later or whatever it was, I told him that we were going to help,” Biden told MSNBC’s Lawrence O’Donnell. “And I said, ‘But Bibi, you can’t be carpet bombing these communities.’ And he said to me, ‘Well you did it. You carpet bombed Berlin. You dropped a nuclear weapon. You killed thousands of innocent people because you had to in order to win a war.’”
“I said, ‘But that’s why we came up with the [United Nations],’” Biden continued with a smirk. “New deals by which—how what we do relative to civilians and military.”
“So he was comparing twenty-first-century war tactics, battle tactics, with World War II?” asked O’Donnell.
“Well, what he was really doing was going after me for saying, ‘You can’t indiscriminately bomb civilian areas. Even if the bad guys are there. Even if the bad guys are there, you can’t take out two, 10, 1,500 innocent people in order to get one bad guy,” Biden replied.
“And he made the legitimate argument, his perspective—‘Look, these are the guys that killed my people. These are the guys that are all over in these tunnels. Nobody has any idea of the miles of tunnels that are down there. The only way to get to them is to take out the places under which they got to the tunnels.’”
Biden then likened Israel’s ensuing assault on Palestine to America’s “war on terror” after the 9/11 terrorist attack.
Biden’s response is a particularly damning indictment of how his administration handled ceasefire negotiations. It makes it clear that Biden knew early on that Netanyahu intended to indiscriminately target Gaza—and did little to stop him.

Re: Let’s have a war!
well since Trumps UN ambassador just said Israel has a "biblical right" to the west bank....I doubt funding to Israel will stop anytime soon.
But...hey, at least it's not Biden this time right? right???

Re: Let’s have a war!
I'm not sure it makes any difference to the folks being bombed whether the guy signing off on the weapons has an (R) or a (D) next to their name.
also dunno if anyone ever said Trump was gonna be any "better" than Biden about the Israel/Palestine conflict.
As for, Ukraine, tho...there did seem to be some narrative that Trump was gonna pull the plug on Ukraine, to the benefit of Russia, presumably cuz he's under the influence of Putin.
And the fact Trump is NOT pulling the plug on Ukraine, seems at odds with that narrative.

24 hours and still no end
good job trump
good job trump
Have we fallen into a mesmerized state that makes us accept as inevitable that which is inferior or detrimental, as though having lost the will or the vision to demand that which is good?
Re: Let’s have a war!
The bigger deal - and of course this should be expected from someone capable of bankrupting casinos, and someone who habitually and programmatically lies in order to pretend to be creditworthy - is that Trump has no conception of what the United States GETS for providing the foreign aid it does.
Including, to be clear, the foreign aid that improves living conditions in Central America.

Re: Let’s have a war!
ohhh...so now we're ready to talk Central America.
Go on!
Go on!

Re: Let’s have a war!
youre kidding right? big swaths of voters supposedly withheld votes because of "free palestine" and how Biden was aiding israel....you talked about it multiple times.....BiggDick wrote: ↑Wed Jan 22, 2025 9:29 am I'm not sure it makes any difference to the folks being bombed whether the guy signing off on the weapons has an (R) or a (D) next to their name.

Re: Let’s have a war!
yea.
like you said, big swaths of voters withheld votes
that does not equate to anyone saying Trump was gonna be any better.

Re: Let’s have a war!
But, it does. Because that is how math works.
Re: Let’s have a war!
At some point, I think it's worth actually blaming Biden or Harris for Biden or Harris not winning enough votes. I dunno what good you think it does to blame anyone else.
As we recently discussed, they just might have won enough votes had they not taken such a hardline stance on Gaza, but they took a hardline stance anyway.
At the end of the day, it's up to candidates to appeal to a big enough number of voters. THAT is how math works.

Re: Let’s have a war!
Ok, but that is a different point, than the one of yours that I responded to.
Re: Let’s have a war!
wut?
pretty sure that sounds like you once again blaming anyone else BUT Biden or Harris for Biden or Harris not winning enough votes.

Re: Let’s have a war!
Gosh, sparking a war that would cause a hyperbolic Israeli reaction to piss off the left to suppress support for Biden. Who could have possibly benefited Ousdahl? Beyond obnoxious.
Re: Let’s have a war!
You are just searching for conflict (and, yes, moving the goalposts).
You made a point. I responded to the point you made. You responded as if your original point - the one I responded to - was not what it was.
Re: Let’s have a war!
I don't mean to search for conflict.
Now I'm just confused.
I'm pretty sure the my point you refer to, that you said you responded to, is the one about withheld votes not equating to Trump being any better?
and you reply with some cryptic, "that's how math works."
, if you think a voter who didn't vote for Trump also somehow equates to a voter saying Trump is better, I think your math might be a little off.
Now I'm just confused.

Re: Let’s have a war!
this one's like, ALL over the place.
I don't think anyone "sparking a war" in Gaza did so "to piss off the left," nor to suppress support for Biden (13 months prior to the election?!)
I think Biden (and Harris!) suppressed support for themselves, by doubling down over and over on supporting Israel's hyperbolic reaction, even despite increasing disapproval among voters during an election year.
Besides, though this latest conflict was sparked, it is hardly a "war."
Wars tend to be more fought between soldiers. This this one is more so just soldiers bombing civilians, mostly women and children.
That's a big big part of why it's been so controversial!
Re: Let’s have a war!
There go the goalposts (and here’s that straw man) again.BiggDick wrote: ↑Wed Jan 22, 2025 12:57 pm I don't mean to search for conflict.

You posted about people withholding votes because of Biden’s policies. It would only be logical to assume you meant withholding votes from Harris.
I responded to that post by (accurately) pointing out that a vote withheld from Harris is a vote (or, a non-vote) that (by operation of math) is supportive of Trump’s chances.
And now, a few posts later, here you are acting as if I said that “a voter who didn't vote for Trump also somehow equates to a voter saying Trump is better.”
