Trump is very pro Israel and already passed exec orders to limit previous sanctions.
I dunno if it's that crazy of a stretch at this point to doubt the integrity of those defending Trump and his lackeys ( or, depending on how you see it, Elon and his lackeys ).

1. I'm not a socialist, I was exaggerating what people refer to me/us as, i.e., it was a joke.
(I'm nearly a fucking poster child for compassionate capitalism, dammit.)

2. By going over to the "dark side", I meant you've descended into almost pathological both sidersism, with a healthy dose of "blame America first" thrown in, with little consideration given to how we got here-your protestations to the contrary, notwithstanding.

Just my opinion, yours might differ.

And, I won't deny that the ferocity of the attitude towards you when I returned, was palpable. But, I wasn't here to see or understand what caused it, and have tried to stay out of it, as much as possible.

Now, what did Shirley and PhD disagree on about vaccines?

I'd prefer that PhD were here to give his side, because my recollection won't be exact. But, the way I remember it:

As I recall, it was very early days on .net, and I made the comment that along with the "invention" of antibiotics, vaccines were the crowning achievement in the field of medicine in the 20th century.

Some guy whose handle seemed familiar but I didn't know from .com, by the name of PhD opined that vaccines were not the crowning achievement in medicine in the 20th century, but of the 18th century, when Edward Jenner invented the first vaccine for cow pox in 1796, which protected people from the much worse disease, small pox.

There's absolutely no doubt Jenner's invention was a monumental step, but IMO, it was on a fairly localized scale, and not much was done in the vaccine arena in the ensuing years, until vaccine inventions for a variety of diseases became much more common and available to the masses in the 20th century, impacting the health of billions of people throughout the world.

We were both too proud to concede, the conversation eventually ended, and the twain never met again. Sadly.

In my defense, if I need one, on numerous occasions while PhD was still here, I called Randy out for pretending to argue with someone on the staff of the infectious disease dept. at of one of the premiere medical institutions in the world, who had forgotten more than Randy would ever know about public health and pandemics, referring to PhD.

As far as I'm aware, my gestures went unrequited.

If we only had a nickel for every time 18th century public health inoculations created a loud argument where gentlemen refused to back down until nearly dueling.

lol, good one, Sparko!

I wish PhD were here to give us his side/recollection.

One dynamic that may or may not have played a part, and I'm not saying it did in this case, but it's an accepted phenomenon:

PhDs teach medical students, no matter how dumb we are when we show up.
PhDs know more about their area of expertise on a basic science level, than medical students and doctors.
Doctors take what they learned from PhDs and foist it on the public.
PhDs generally make significantly less than physicians, and some resent it.

It feels slanderous to suggest that possibility when in reality, I don't know nothin' about PhD, other than he lifts, likes sports, and donuts.

Someone should send this to him. Maybe it'll piss him off enough, he'll come back to set the record straight, and tell me to go fuck myself?

That would be #winning

He also had some moments in the past that remind me of you - again, just my opinion. DC, too.

I do recall time-out'ing him for an hour or two during the OU KU football game for siding with the officials who blew a call...but not for goin' full illy.

I think the only poster i've put in timeout for being nasty was Vega ( as he crossed personal boundaries ), hasbeen ( trollin' to troll - for an hour or two ) and recently psych ( for a day ).

I have not perma-banned anyone who wasn't clearly a troll account sans Phogusher and lobster.
Let me know when you're going to remove the "Donate Now" shit. It's beyond petty at this point.

An apology would get that donate now button gone in a millisecond.
Otherwise, I'm surprised you even noticed it.

thanks Shirley!

I'd be curious to learn more about "compassionate capitalism," if there is such a thing.

I'll agree that I'm guilty of bothsiderism. Maybe pathologically so! But I wish we could also objectively balance that against what myself and DC and others here have perceived as other posters exhibiting pathological partisanship.

I agree that I've been critical of America. Permission to do so is imho among the things that makes America great. But, I also realize many Americans, like many citizens of pretty much every country, thinks theirs is the best, and to suggest otherwise, is inevitably controversial.

I agree that the attitude towards me was (but going forward hopefully not still is) ferocious. It was overwhelmingly just cuz of disagreements on the pols board, and in the war thread particularly.

thanks for shedding light on the PhD discourse, as well. Buncha vaccine nerds lol.

oh, and "We were both too proud to concede" is POTD material, even if I already gave today's away.

An apology for not being bothered by a small ad on the floor of AFH? Yeah, no. I could give you an apology I do not mean but that is not in my nature and I prefer to be honest.

Looks like your goal to be less petty only goes so far. Continue on.

It's only annoying on my phone, where the one on the top takes a lot to scroll over. Whatever, it will remain as a Shrine to Eternal Pettiness I suppose. I don't apologize for having an opinion that is different than someone else's.

It's just called being consistent and standing up for what I believe is right. I don't like petty attempts to bully and do not back down from them and I don't plan on changing that about myself. If you take being true to myself as being a "performance artist" then so be it.

I think you are missing the point of why I just now called you silly and a performance artist but so it goes.

Also I removed the banner at the top a long time ago ( like, a day after I put it up ) - you should only see the tiny little image above your name - it's very small, you shouldn't even notice it.

( try clearing your cache if you're still seeing the larger one )

I cleared the cache on Edge, Chrome and Opera browsers and it still appears on all three.
