My concern is, the nation collectively gets pulled (and pulled right in particular) so far that proposing this shit now like 3 days in means that like 2-3-4 years from now, it's gonna be "normalized" and we'll be debating whether to permit a third term like it's not actually a batshit crazy thing to suggest.

20 Million people sat out the last election cuz they couldn't see an upgrade over trump in Kamala. In 2020 those people voted because they knew anything would be better than another trump admin and they coalesced around Biden. In four years those 20 million will remember why voting in 2020 was important. You can't expect reality to burst the bubble of the roadkill patriots. But reality will burst the bubble of the complacent and "it doesn't make any difference" and "purity test" crowd.BiggDick wrote: ↑Fri Jan 24, 2025 9:03 am My concern is, the nation collectively gets pulled (and pulled right in particular) so far that proposing this shit now like 3 days in means that like 2-3-4 years from now, it's gonna be "normalized" and we'll be debating whether to permit a third term like it's not actually a batshit crazy thing to suggest.
Sit back and watch the comedy horror show. They won't change America, they will just remind us of the shame infused in our lowest worst instincts.
And while we are sitting patiently waiting for the grievance patriots to set themselves on fire while trying to burn it all down; consider the words of Octavia Butler, an uppity woman if there ever was one. She wrote this 30 years ago.

I still think there's less merit to blaming voters who didn't wanna vote for Kamala, than there is to blaming Kamala and dems for not being able to win more votes.
Dems were up against what was a joke of a candidate, and what should have been a tap-in putt of an election W. And yet...
if Dems do NOT figure that out, and instead keep blaming everyone but themselves for what giant loosers they are, I'm afraid it makes things like the potential of a Trump 2028 victory that much more likely.

Re: are we there yet?
Let's be clear, "the Dems" are gonna be just fine, they will just use this all to raise money.
The "progressives" on the other hand will be losing decades worth of "progress" every day for the next four years. That is what losing looks like in a real sense. You don't need to compromise on your principles, but some compromises lead to bigger victories later.

sigh.
I just dunno what good it does to sit back and say the dems are gonna be just fine, without actually coming up with some actual plan or vision to be just fine...beyond "raise money."
when we loose decades worth of "progress," I think we all loose, not just progressives.
but that's just me.

Democrats, aka. "giant loosers", (sic) have lost the popular vote for president twice in the last 9 national elections. The DEI system for rural White voters also known as the Electoral College is distorting our elections, and nearly insuring that we'll be ruled by a minority going forward.
(That's your cue to now blame Democrats for not changing the system "when they had a chance", which would have been at, checks notes, no time in the recent past.)
In addition to whatever else we might think of him, former TV reality show star Trump had/has name recognition like almost no one else, and that's a huge bar for anyone, Republican or Democrat, to overcome.

The terms would seem to be specifically tailored to include someone, and preclude someone.
‘‘No person shall be elected to the office of the Presi-
dent more than three times, nor be elected to any addi-
tional term after being elected to two consecutive terms,
and no person who has held the office of President, or
acted as President, for more than two years of a term to
which some other person was elected President shall be
elected to the office of the President more than twice.’’.

Re: are we there yet?
we must be getting closer
but our orange lord and savior said....The impact of President-elect Donald Trump's promise of mass deportation is already starting to show.
The California Farm Bureau says fears in the Central Valley have led to migrant farmworkers not showing up for work, which has virtually halted the area's citrus harvest. Agriculture leaders in the Bay Area are worried about something similar happening locally and what it could mean for citrus prices.
It’s the peak of citrus harvest season in Kern County right now, but the industry is taking a hit after immigration agents conducted several operations last week, targeting undocumented immigrants with criminal records.
The state farm bureau reports that action made some agriculture workers too afraid to show up for work.
"We are certainly very concerned about what is happening and how that is unfolding," Monterey County Farm Bureau Executive Director Norm Groot said.
The Monterey County Farm Bureau said it is keeping a close eye on the developments in the Central Valley. Harvest season in the Salinas Valley begins in late April.
The farm bureau said just the threat of deportation could be enough to deter many of the 55,000 migrant workers the valley needs to operate during harvest season.
"They’re not going to show up for work and that means crops will remain in the field and not be harvested and probably lost at that point," Groot said.
The farm bureau said that could lead to higher food prices.
are we there yet?"They were called essential workers during the pandemic when our nation needed them and now they are asking us to be there for them when they need us," Monterey County Supervisor Luis Alejo said.
The farm bureau joined Monterey County leaders on Wednesday to pledge to do what it can do to protect workers and their families.
The Mexican consul general said consulates across the country have a direct order from the president of Mexico to assure the basic rights of undocumented immigrants aren’t violated.
"Our growers remain concerned with what is occurring in other counties," Groot said.

Re: are we there yet?
First phases of targeted deportation have begun. Hundreds of known criminals that are here illegally have already been arrested and deported. Not sure why anyone would object against this when you look at some of the crimes these illegals had commited before being released back into our country. Stuff like burglary, aggravated assault, sexual crimes against minors
About time
(And before anyone gets butthurt and starts talking about nazis, yes, this is factual, look it up)

Good allocation of money.
Do you think all of this is cheap to do?
If yes you are incorrect.
They also have detained American citizens in their raids.

Re: are we there yet?
Absolutely not. It's super expensive. But it's a better investment than giving them handouts, or foreign aid
We already spend a lot on illegal immigration. The dems were incentivizing the big increase in illegal immigration by giving them handouts, and in some places cards with money and housing
We already created the mess, now we gotta fix it

Re: are we there yet?
Just doin a little math cuz I hear this is gonna be expensive, but worth it; cuz brown criminals….
I didn’t copy and paste this from reading it somewhere, I looked at a few sources like the DOJ, Dept Homeland Security, Dept Ag and California State sites. If you have better numbers feel free to plug them in and provide revised costs.
The Bear Republic produces about 75% of the fruit and nuts in the US, generating revenue of about $59.4B. To harvest this, it requires about 800,000 immigrant workers, of which around 600,000 are undocumented. In my business we break things down into units of revenue per employee often as a check of where we are financially. This equates to about $74,250/laborer for Cali. Seems pretty good for unskilled labor.
Right now it seems like the harvest in CA is at a standstill as the majority of the labor is not showing up to work. The number I keep hearing is that about 25% of harvest might be happening. Let’s assume that goes on for whole year cuz punishing Cali is like a boner pill for the roadkill patriots. That would lead to a shortage of $45B in revenue and likely a similar shortage in food product for US consumers.
Let’s also assume that consumption doesn’t drop off and so we need to import $45B worth of fruits and nuts from someplace similar in climate to Cali, and the closer the better. The largest foreign supplier of fruits and nuts to US is now Mexico. So we import $45B of food and add a 25% tariff so US consumers have to spend $56B to feed their families. Just $11B extra in family food cost for this disruption, but it is for a good cause and does not affect eggs.
There will of course be additional societal costs as small family farmers lose their land and businesses because they can’t afford to sit out a year of income. These farms are bought by large multinational corps (China) cuz who else has the money. Everything costs a $1B at least so let’s say there is a $1B cost associated with that, but my guess is it could be more.
These workers who now aren’t workin, also aren’t paying into SS and Medicare which by the way they can not draw benefits from so, their payments just subsidize these systems for US Citizens. Immigrant workers put about $20B a year into SS. And these farmworkers in Cali are about 10% of that population so we will lose about $2B in “immigrant donations” to our system for supporting seniors in their old age.
So a simplistic ROM number so far for this operation if it continues, would be about $14B. This does not include the cost of sending ICE agents out to Cali to try to roundup/process/vetted 600,000-800,000 people. These agents likely don’t all live out there so there are hotels and meals and gas money for vehicles. Let’s just say for simplification of the math add another $2B.
So 11+1+2+2= $16B for this operation to “remove violent criminals from the US”.
Within that 600,000 people, the incidence of violent criminals is about .1%....so there are around 600 needles we are searching for in this haystack. That works out to around $26,700,000/criminal if we catch them all.
But the Laken Riley Kabuki Act!!!
Is this the only/best option to getting potential murderers off our streets? And seeing as we have tens of thousands of native born killers roaming our streets, might some money be better spent on rounding up citizen violent criminals? They probably don't cost as much per criminal. Nor does it create a broad brush process as destructive to our economy. But it doesn't throw red meat to the roadkill or create as much chaos and trigger the libs or make an example of Cali. trumpty plumpty promised chaos and drama, so it will be written, so it will be done!
I realize the roadkill can rationalize anything their lord and savior vomits up, but seriously?
I’m sure I missed some costs in this ROM number, but yes indeed, it does seem like it will be "expensive"….are we there yet?
