Hm.
I wonder if the student hype kinda started dipping, oh, when the players they were watching became less like them and more like professional athletes.
Surely there's no link there.

You forgot something. Let me help you. ;)

Not sure how that applies. I’m just saying Bill needs to look in the mirror first.
Oh, it applies. But I agree, Self probably should (not necessarily "needs") to do some reflecting of his own if he hasn't already. I have a feeling he has. I'm just wondering if/when it gets to the point where he decides he's had enough. Today's college basketball world can't be as enjoyable for him as it used to be. Can it?
I’ve said before that I think the game - and my definition of that I’m included the NIL/transfer portal/entitled snowflake issues - has passed him by. He is used to breaking players down and building them back up, and the best players won’t stand for/stick around for thar anymore. I think his new soft approach isn’t working, either. He may just be too old and tired.

I take solace in the fact that you are, more often than not, 100% completely and totally wrong.

I hope I am. I haven't seen much to disabuse me of that notion to this point.

You seem to have a tenuous grasp on both the situation and the English language, so I'll give your observations exactly the amount of attention they merit.

Have we fallen into a mesmerized state that makes us accept as inevitable that which is inferior or detrimental, as though having lost the will or the vision to demand that which is good?

Pretty ballsy to call out the fans when you put out a mediocre product two years running. I don’t see the intensity from Self that I used to, either.

Exactly. You make it like the NBA, you're going to get an NBA environment, which is garbage compared to, well, what college basketball environments were

I think NIL has something to do with it, for sure.

I also think a shift in sports culture has some to do with it as well.

The AFH environment started changing before NIL in my opinion, but NIL has maybe magnified it, or at minimum it's done nothing to improve it.

Obviously, the AFH environment still crushes every other place. So I am only comparing AFH of now to AFH of old. Granted I've only been attending during the Roy and Self eras, which has been a historical stretch, so my opinion is influenced by that.

Top 12 is not up to par by KU standards. Top 5 and competing for the national title is expected, not losing to unranked teams at home.

There was an article in the Star yesterday as well where Self admitted that he was having a hard time getting the players to focus and get pumped up for games. When fans hear that, they wonder what's going on behind the scenes. Does not inspire confidence.

Compared to most years this team plays soft slow boring, no alpha dogs, and prone to coming out flat or brain dead stretches even more than normal too

The new guys settling in should help tho

It's crazy to think that's the standard, but it basically is. Fair or not.

No, it's not, that's crazy. Top 5 every week all the time is not the expectation for any team.
