ETA about Dems not holding primaries.
If I can even try to say so any more. But I do mean it sincerely.
ETA also it's a bummer you stopped reading there. I really don't get these posters who go for this sort of vote-shaming while also purporting to be some champions of democracy.
related, and again - if the only thing standing up for Democracy is the Democratic Party, then I sure do hope the Democratic Party figures out how to appeal to more voters.
I don't even know what to do with this other than to say that I think you have some priorities backwards.
But - and trying to keep the thread on topic here - for one party and candidate to be accusing the other of fascism or something similar, while also telling otherwise-concerned voters to stop making such a big deal about all the weapons they're supplying to war criminals (among other issues), it just seems a bit disillusioning.
Re: Israel/Palestine
Efficient and concise, I like your style.
The point of voting is to get results. One side is getting results even if they are not a majority in our society. The majority will need to find common ground if they gonna reduce the effects of minority rule. That will mean some compromise from competing factions, rather than splintering and being easily defeated.

Japhy, again, I just think your, and dem party, energy in general would be better spent trying to figure out how to appeal to more voters, rather than to mock voters about things like purity.

You'll never see it coming, Mich. Like the clue that passed you years ago.
Re: Israel/Palestine
No one said "stop making such a big deal about all the weapons..." that's just you being overly dramatic to make your point. Obviously, what Israel was doing with the weapons provided by the US was a big deal. But making it a reason to allow Donald Trump to become President, who was planning to rip apart OUR country and who is now backing up that plan with action, is the definition of cutting off your nose to spite your face.BiggDick wrote: ↑Thu Jan 30, 2025 11:26 amif you want to distinguish that much, sure.twocoach wrote: ↑Thu Jan 30, 2025 11:12 am"Warning people that one of the people running for President intends to rip our country apart is undemocratic!"BiggDick wrote: ↑Thu Jan 30, 2025 11:05 am good point, Shirley!

As often happens, you are responding to a point you WANT to respond to (regardless of whether it was made), as opposed to the point that was made.BiggDick wrote: ↑Thu Jan 30, 2025 10:03 am seriously dude?
Fish, you probably more than any other poster have shamed me for voting third party*, and suggested a Trump L/Kamala W if I didn't.
Tho, I do agree, it IS fantastical, and a straw man.
I also agree that this looks like a multi-generation backlslide. But I'm afraid that backslide has been in effect for quite some time now, and has happened and is happening in ways that are due to more than just one president or party.
I would also be curious to hear you clarify what you mean when you say dems "should not have watered down the Harris/Walz potion when it appeared to have the needed strength."
*for real, look! You just did it right here, by the end of the exact same post you claimed not to!
unless you wanna distinguish "issues voters" from "third-party" votes.
but I think "issues voters" is a tell, here. If voters are NOT voting on issues, then what are they voting on, exactly?
Oh yeah, that's right: rigid partisan allegiance.
I will say again:
Nobody is saying that your third-party vote cost Dems the election.
I have never ever, not one time, said that your third-party vote cost Dems the election.
But the point that was made by the balance of my post* is that, taken together, all of the votes withheld from Harris on bases like yours are what caused Trump's victory.
* emphasis added:
However, the number of people who did not vote for Harris on the basis of some issue on which Trump would obviously be just as bad if not worse (whether that is Gaza, or egg prices, or free speech, or what the fuck ever) is absolutely a MULTIPLE of the number of votes that would have been needed to avert what sure looks like a multi-generation backslide (if we're lucky).
Do the Dems deserve blame for lots of things? Yes. Among many other things (and limiting to the 2024 cycle only), they should have been clearer-eyed on Biden's weakness and non-viability as a candidate, and then they should not have watered down the Harris/Walz potion when it appeared to have the needed strength.
But fuck and yes I blame these issues voters, as well, for recklessly and arrogantly and foolishly and selfishly failing to digest the gravity of the decision before them.

Re: Israel/Palestine
There is no need to continue to post the same thing over and over and over. Yes, we all agree that there is no reason for a white conservative male to be concerned about the next four years because it was never about the economy and the increased prices and taxes you will be paying under Trump.

Re: Israel/Palestine
You're that comfortable in your position that you are still pointing fingers at the Democrats while facing the impending collapse of democracy here?
Re: Israel/Palestine
Re: Israel/Palestine
It's sort of amazing.
I don't think anyone would disagree that the Democrats made the "impending collapse of democracy" point consistently and with strength. To the point of constant mocking for it.
And so, if the "dem party" is to blame for Harris's loss, because it did not "appeal to more voters," then isn't it implicit (in assigning that blame) that voters simply did not find the "impending collapse of democracy" point to have been appealing?
And in that case...what's that say about the voters?
