trump’s promises
Re: trump’s promises
People are so stupid.
listening to the Walmart cashier this morning talking to her customer. They were complaining that there benefits were paused and fuck Biden. Apparently....the new line of thought is that the federal fundinf freeze was Biden and he had set it up before leaving office that these benefits would expire but "Thank God Trump reversed the expiring order and restored the federal funding"
i just.....don't even know man.

Wait until he cuts their benefits again in a less obvious way. Eventually the abusive dad in the big chair will start to take some of the blame. The grace period will end this year.
But in the meantime, let's talk about my tax cuts shall we? Solstice doesn't pay for itself.

It's a matter of weeks - days? hours? - until Trump tries to somehow apply tariffs only to purchases made by residents of blue states.
Re: trump’s promises
Yup.
Just like the immigration arrests and the fallout from them will be intended to cause as much negative economic impact as possible in blue cities and states.

We just suffered through an election cycle in which the superior candidate lost in large part due to the weaponization by the right of inflation that had its roots in (1) an externality, and (2) the previous (right) administration’s actions (including in response to that externality).
When the bill comes due for all of the bad-governance that’s going to take place over the next few years (diseases; safety standards; effects of trade wars; etc), will the American public have learned its lesson?
Seems like that might depend on strawberries actually going to $11.99/box.

as the hits keep piling up, i’m admittedly starting to feel a bit like gutter, like this may only end in violence

And I think we all know what violence means - it means (1) the US military being turned on protestors in blue cities and (2) paramilitary domestic terrorism to which our government turns a blind eye.KUTradition wrote: ↑Fri Jan 31, 2025 7:32 amcan’t i’m all that optimisticjfish26 wrote: ↑Fri Jan 31, 2025 7:27 amAnd just think about all of the bombs and booby traps that are being laid.KUTradition wrote: ↑Fri Jan 31, 2025 7:08 am National Science Foundation suspends salary payments, leaving researchers unable to pay their bills

Re: trump’s promises
Some Executive Orders that have not been rescinded are still causing complete chaos.
My brother still is in a position where he fears retroactive liability as he can't see, at his level, what funds he approves are associated with which act. His job is to just look at the numbers to see if everything checks out before approval.
No one up the chain is giving him clarity on what to do.
There's millions in funds that aren't associated with these acts but he can't know at this level which ones are and aren't.
It's a shit show.
What a fucking disaster the first 10 days have been.

Re: trump’s promises
They are straight up threatening with emails to federal works ( from the fake OPM ) now saying,
"OK, if you don't resign, it's gonna get way harder for you - with rigorous performance checks and 5 days a week in the office."
Before a MICH/dolomite comes in with some 'heaven forbid' bullshit -- look at it this way:
You work at an office and do all of your work on a computer.
Your manager is named Joe.
Your regional manager is named Susie.
You've met both of them and both are pleasant.
Susie said five years ago that there can be a policy that you can work from home as long as your numbers/performance didn't suffer. There still will be annual reviews. It will be up to each manager to allow this. Joe says sure, this is fine.
Then you get a weird email directly from Susie that doesn't sound like her saying, 'hey you all should quit your jobs and you'll get benefits for six months.'
You talk with some of your coworkers. That doesn't seem like Susie.
A day later you find out from Joe that the new CEO of the company is now posing as Susie. The emails aren't hers but are under her name, posing as her.
So...that's shitty. You know Susie. Who is this guy?
So you don't quit.
Follow up email from "Susie":
"OK, if you don't quit, know that you'll be coming into the office 5 days a week by the end of the month and there's going to be a lot more performance reviews."
If this was Susie, it'd still be the wrong way to go about doing this.
Susie would say, "we've given it thought and due to overall performance we will be phasing out the work from home policy over the next six months. We're also going to have bi-annual reviews just to be sure we're keeping in line with the speed of business." Something like that. Something that showed, hey, we need to change things but realize you are humans with lives.
But what was actually written is not the right way to say it. And it's not Susie.
So spare me some 'heaven forbid' bullshit.

That's the big one. Inference that if you wanna keep your job, you may have to move your family to Alabama or Oklahoma. It's in the memo everyone at DOD received this week.KUTradition wrote: ↑Fri Jan 31, 2025 8:28 am and, there’s talk that those “offices” will be consolidated, forcing you to either move or take the severance
We are not going to tell you where we are consolidating, just that it may be coming for your job and your family.
It could be Fort Carson....but it's likely Fort Sill.
