Recruiting 2019
Re: Recruiting 2019
Upperclassmen are my favorite.
Re: Recruiting 2019
The argument against one-and-dones is a spiritual cousin of others that cycle through here, like there being something mutually exclusive about winning the league and winning in the tournament, or about preferring to go into the tournament as a #2 seed.CrimsonNBlue wrote: ↑Mon Apr 01, 2019 1:03 pm Oh this argument again?
And after a season where our season was derailed by a fragile bodied junior and fragile minded senior?
Re: Recruiting 2019
Only 1 number 1 seed made the final 4. Clearly it's better to be a 2 or 3 seed!
Re: Recruiting 2019
I dont want more players like Jamari, and Brady freaking Morningstar. If you feel that your point cannot be made without an absurd overstatement such as that then it should be a pretty good sign that your point is stupid.IllinoisJayhawk wrote: ↑Mon Apr 01, 2019 1:42 pm I know it's not exclusive to our fan base, but my god our fan base is hilarious.
When we've got OADs on the bench we complain about Jamari playing.
When we don't have OADs we complain that we should only be recruiting players like jamari and brady and reed and Landen Lucas.....those same players that most of our fan base complains NON STOP about while they're actually playing at KU.
So weird.
I'd take it a lot more seriously if people complained about our coaching staff composition (can't tell me that snacks is as good of an assistant as Jank or Dooley or Danny were).
We didn't struggle because of OADs in a single year other than Wiggins and Embiids year. Subsequently the 2 best OADs we've had here...we struggled this year because of mistakes we made managing our roster the last 2 or 3 years with transfers. We didn't need Moore here. We didn't need KJ here. We didn't need Sam here. That's years worth of scholarships wasted.
Blame Self not OADs. He got us in this mess.
I want Kansas to have more guys like Graham, Svi, Chalmers, T. Rob, Taylor, etc... guys that can play at an all american level their last year or two that are fully dialed in to what Self wants the teams to run at both ends. And have them be supported more by guys like Kaun, EJ, D. Jackson, Russ Rob, Withey, Releford, etc...
Guys like Moore, KJ, Sam. They are "just in case" guys that you sign just in case you miss on a targeted recruit. We weren't going to get a really good freshman PG to sign and be on the roster behind Graham in Graham's senior year and we didnt have a fresh ready to be a contributing soph because we had both Mason and Graham the year before. A good problem to have but that's what created the void, not signing Moore.
Moore was insurance against missing on Dotson and having nothing apost-Graham and he used a scholarship that was basically a throwaway. He doesn't cause a problem.
Re: Recruiting 2019
At least on paper, before the fact, Moore looked like a really good recruit to sign.
Re: Recruiting 2019
You have not provided one compelling piece of information that supports your side of the argument that Bill Self coached teams have a better chance in the NCAA tourney with OAD players in the rotation. Feel free to change my mind, I am open to new information.
Many KU fans want OAD recruits as much because it boosts their online egos when they argue with fans of opposing teams, especially those from Duke/UK etc... than because it gives our team an actual better chance to win.
Re: Recruiting 2019
And maybe if he was the starting pg he would have made less questionable decisions, who knows. I am glad we landed Dotson and didnt have to find out.
He was certainly not a good fit for the role that he ended up in.
Re: Recruiting 2019
Every team needs role players.
Re: Recruiting 2019
Better players give us a better chance to win. Period. Sometimes those come in the form of OADs. Sometimes they come in the form of multiple year players who develop over time....they do not come in the form of Charlie Moore or KJ Lawson.
Duke and UK have both won national titles with OAD players.

What?
You're cracking me up today.
Moore would have been better if only we'd have started him and played him more! LMAO

Re: Recruiting 2019
Bottom line: if you don't like top 20 players coming to Kansas then it's probably better if you cheer for Nebraska. Because when you're a top 4 program nationally you get top 20 players.
Re: Recruiting 2019
The last time we had a 2 seed and a starting roster full of only juniors and seniors, we played in the national title game despite having Kevin Young, Justin Wesley and Connor Teahan as bench contributors. Just a coincidence.IllinoisJayhawk wrote: ↑Mon Apr 01, 2019 1:52 pm Only 1 number 1 seed made the final 4. Clearly it's better to be a 2 or 3 seed!

yup. That's the model we should replicate!
Re: Recruiting 2019
If you do not understand the concept that some players don't react well to lesser roles than they hoped for when they committed to a program then I am not sure you should continue to talk about college basketball. That is really not a complicated concept to grasp, nor is it difficult to find hundreds of cases that prove it to be true.IllinoisJayhawk wrote: ↑Mon Apr 01, 2019 2:11 pmWhat?
