FAA director is forced out on Jan 20th:

https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/202 ... estigation

Freeze is ordered on Federal employees with no clarity on whether this includes air traffic controllers on Jan 20th ( after the crash trumps people have come out saying it did not include controllers but there was confusion with the specifics of the order - as there is everywhere with all said orders ):

https://www.whitehouse.gov/presidential ... ng-freeze/

On January 21, Trump dismissed TSA Administrator David Pekoske and Coast Guard Commandant Adm. Linda Fagan, and disbanded all the members of the Aviation Security Advisory Committee.

January 28th, Elon/Trump's buyout threat/proposal is issued.

January 29th, the first major airline collision in 16 years.

Captain Steeve says the helicopter was warned about the nearby plane, but it seems the helicopter was watching the Wrong plane.

In theory, if there were two controllers instead of one, more attention could have been paid to the situation as it started to unfold - i.e. one controller noticing the situation and directing the helicopter with more urgency.

And perhaps the current controller was stressed out b/c he/she wasn't sure if he/she was going to loose his job at any moment added on top of the standard stress of directing air traffic.

me too. But between work being busy, kids being crazy, coaching, and the early mornings walking the trapline. Just hasn't happened i guess. We've also, as a family in general, been sick more this year, so that has an impact I'm sure.

Even now, I'm not sick, per se, but my energy levels have been way low and been just kinda run down for a damn month now.

Hilarious. :?

I could go in to one of my way too long editorials but I will spare you.
Illy and Trad - I'm not trying to be a dick by asking, I'm just truly curious, why do you feel it is good for him that he hasn't had a drink since Thanksgiving if he doesn't abuse alcohol and it doesn't have significant negative affects on him?

you don’t have to abuse alcohol for it to be bad for you

i’ll gladly celebrate the sobriety of others, even if temporary and unintended (i’m 3 years+ myself)

I think I have reached an age where my body doesn't really like to process much alcohol any more. I haven't made any sort of concerted effort to not drink but I just don't much at all any more. Seems to only be at events any more. No more at the house with everyday life or out to eat.

Definitely feel better without it. Good luck to anyone doing stuff so they feel even a little better. Take it anywhere you can get it.

absolutely

at least for the wife and i, there came a moment a couple months in where we had this realization of just how saturated our society is with it

I’ve gone from 12-16 a week in my 30s to 4-8 a week.

2 on Friday, 5 on Saturday is probably the average.

This is just a general statement based on what you posted. Not a knock on you - or anyone else.
I live in a big city, I go to restaurants, sporting events, concerts/festivals, fundraisers/charity/social events, I live and work near bars, many people I work with attend "happy hours" with their co-workers, I watch television, I have been to rehab twice in my life, etc., etc., etc, and I am very often not just exposed to alcohol consumption, I am bombarded with it.
I would think someone would have to be out of touch with our society not to realize and recognize our society is saturated with alcohol consumption.

in hindsight, i feel like i became numb to it, and it wasn’t until sobriety that i realized just how much our society tries to normalize it…commercials, tv, movies, music, most and social situation. as i said, it sets up at least the appearance of expectations just to “fit in” and do what everyone else is doing in those settings

i don’t judge those who imbibe; to each their own

Those are excellent points and I find them to be true as well!

I have too many thoughts and opinions about alcohol and those who consume it.
Alcohol wasn't my "drug of choice" but no doubt I abused it. It's NOT funny but it is true that I used it to "self medicate". I say it's "NOT funny" because that is such a vague thing for me to say - being that I believe most people use it to 'self medicate" - just to different degrees.
