Increased wages = increased commodities = no increased spending power or life quality. No, the corporations arent going to skim their margins so that the poor can afford more, isnt going to happen, not the way capitalism is set up. If you want distributed wealth you are asking for socialism and leaning towards communism. If that's what you want then fine, vote for Bernie and support AOC. Doesnt change the simple economics that drive our free market system.
Ok, now I'm done. Feel free to continue with squirrels as you see fit.

But it's also not a fair argument, because the % increase in minimum wage will not equal the overall % increase in the cost of commodities. So his argument is wrong from the start.TraditionKU wrote: ↑Tue Apr 02, 2019 11:21 ami think most here grasp what you’re saying...but, we’re arguing that it isn’t the “best” system and needs fixedTDub wrote: ↑Tue Apr 02, 2019 10:50 am Criminy. Are you asking me?
All I know is, in my entire career working for a double digit’s worth of employers, I’ve never once been offered any sort of equity.
You said that equity is normally considered for an executive’s compensation but not a worker’s, but could it just be that workers aren’t typically offered equity?

Re: Green New Deal
It depends on where you work and for how long. How many of the companies you've worked for are publicly traded?

My current company is public.
Record profits, champagne, and of course a rework of our pay plans to reduce our compensation.

Re: Green New Deal
so if increased wages can only mean increased commodity prices, then a reduction in compensation can only mean reduced prices passed on to the consumer
right?
so maybe I CAN afford that yacht!

The thing is, the government is just an extension of business.
I remember our CEO sending an email out, encouraging us to vote for Trump.
Our sales as a company were already on a steady upward trajectory prior to the election.
Things have flattened out a bit in this current fiscal year.
The trade issues are hurting us, like I imagine they are hurting others.
Supply expenses are on a fast and steady rise, but no one is making more.
But hey, yacht sales are up 19%!
If we sell 15% less, and our compensation will be 15% less.......

Here's the thing: it cuts both ways. Sometimes private industry fucks you. Sometimes government does. My annual revenues have been cut by 60% over two years because of regulation imposed by a FOREIGN government, the intention of which was to HELP businesses like mine. It sucks. It's killing the industry. And there ain't a damn thing I (or anyone in this country) can do about it. It just is.

Was the U.S. a socialist nation in the 1950s?
Discussing just how out of control that pay is, Executive Paywatch points out the average wage – adjusted for inflation -- has stagnated for more than 50 years. Meanwhile, CEO’s average pay since the 1950s has grown by 1000%.

Re: Green New Deal
But the important thing to remember is, the working man’s quality of life can never improve, cuz you can’t increase wages without an inevitable increase in prices making it all moot.seahawk wrote: ↑Tue Apr 02, 2019 3:53 pm Was the U.S. a socialist nation in the 1950s?

And we can’t possibly do anything about that CEO pay, lest we all become a bunch of socialist commies.
Re: Green New Deal
What you keep ignoring is the fact we DID something about CEO in 1994. The real-world (which is to say the unitended) consequence of what we did was to push CEO pay up even more. And Trump -- hero to Ousdahl and working men everywhere -- DID do something to undo this.ousdahl wrote: ↑Tue Apr 02, 2019 4:43 pmBut the important thing to remember is, the working man’s quality of life can never improve, cuz you can’t increase wages without an inevitable increase in prices making it all moot.seahawk wrote: ↑Tue Apr 02, 2019 3:53 pm Was the U.S. a socialist nation in the 1950s?
