Because I think those things will become priority over the good things about college basketball.
I don't understand how YOU ( JFish italics ) can't comprehend this.
So around and around we go.

We've talked about this over and over.
It's like politics at this point.
I don't see the reason to keep talking about it.

You don't agree with what I think and I don't agree with what you think.
No reason to keep making subtle digs at the situation.
The end.

( stems from this comment: I want more kids who want to be here rather than more Quentin Grimes's...not sure why you quote me there when you know we simply won't agree on things )

The point, and why this keeps coming up, is that this is the issue that hangs over all of college basketball. The stubborn refusal to get the players more value than they're getting is what causes both (a) weird shit to happen to and around children, (b) really great basketball players to choose not to play basketball in college.

As KU fan, (b) bothers me because, you know, I like when great basketball players choose to play basketball in college (and, particularly, at KU and at schools KU plays against).

As a person, (a) bothers me (as it should you).

Guys, can you explain to me what the new rules are with declaring for the draft and hiring an agent. If he does both, can he still return to KU if he wants?

PWhitt believes in the "Golden Age" myth. He believes that, once upon a time, peace and love and harmony -- in addition to perfect amateurism -- ruled the world. And all we have to do is tinker with the rules hard enough and long enough, and then we'll re-create that Golden Age of perfection.

It's called a "myth" for reason, of course. But some fanatics simply cannot be convinced.

But if he's so against it then how/why does he still like/support Bill Self?

You know, cuz Selden stuck around for three years to work on his game so he could...uh, still go undrafted and ultimately get that contract by working his ass off in G League instead...nm
If selden would have left after his freshman year... he likely would have gone undrafted and then failed to earn a contract through the g league. selden is a good comparison to grimes. 6'5 guard who is an OK but not great shooter. except selden was more athletic, stronger, tougher, a better finisher in the paint, a better defender, and a better passer. and selden didnt get drafted. who the fuck would draft quentin grimes.

so I like the selden comparison. but I think you proved yourself wrong

Oh yeah?

Well read your own post bro cuz you just proved yourself wrong about how Selden failed to earn a contract through G league.

If anything, he would have been more likely to be drafted after freshman year.

About all of the 3 or 4 year players mentioned would have gone into the draft had they been better earlier.

Selden had an athletic body and a very high upside. Some of the recent early departures have no chance. No upside. If you can't shoot or play defense, or rebound, I think there is a need to stay and complete the skills coefficient.

How?

If Selden left as a freshman... he would not have been drafted. that is why he came back. And an undrafted freshman wayne selden would not have had the skills to earn a contract playing in the G league. 6'5 guards who dont excel at anything dont get drafted. way too many players like that

Undrafted or not, Selden was prepared better, and he's doing quite well.

You haven't solved anything. No matter how much money your alleged solution creates for the college player, it will never realistically be a large enough number to prevent either (a) or (b).

Because (a) the more money that is involved in anything really, the weirder shit that tends to happen around it. And (b) because the great basketball players will always be able to make more money in the NBA than in college.

We just think differently.
You use words like stubborn assumingly.
You want more money in college basketball and I want less.

College students aren't children.

Part of the solution is treating them like autonomous adults instead of a money making tool for opportunistic loooser leaches who are there under the guise of being advisors there to "protect" these "children".
